No not at all, find a good transmission tech near you and have it checked out, it could only be a small fault but if not attended to it will need a $2000.00 repair

  • Anonymous Dec 22, 2008

To be honest it sounds as if the fluid could be low, on start up it should not need time to build up pressure, however if the fluid is low this type of fault could occur. Find a local transmission shop to check the fluid, but do it soon in the long run preventive maintenance is the most cost affective.

SOURCE: 2002 windstar transmission schematic

I am assuming you need a schematic for this and that you've check all of the other more common things like broken linkages, low transmission fluid, etc. Other than the wiring diagrams that are found in the Haynes or Chiltons manuals, you would have to get a service manual from a dealer. There just isn't much electrical inside a transmission though that isn't covered in the wiring diagrams found in these manuals, which can be found at your local parts store.

Transmission not shiftin

For car not changing gears it can be shifter assembly issue, or it can also be transmission issue. Get the shifter assembly inspected with ignition OFF.

For more troubleshooting, I suggest you to get the Following help link checked, its complete step by step procedure to inspect gear shift issues: -----

2002 Windstar starts fine but when I shift gear the engine shut down, any idea what's cause?

I would think it may be either the idle speed control solenoid located on the intake manifold or an open Vacuum line part.

There is some rerouting of Vacuum force to different Vacuum lines when you shift into gear. Some of the Pollution parts(EGR), the transmission shift solenoids may be Vacuum operated, so when the defective part receives Vacuum force, it leaks out and stalls the motor.

One of the old tricks is to get an old spray bottle and fill it with water. While the engine is running, mist the intake seams and the Vacuum lines. If there is a leak, it will change the RPM or stall the engine. Once you find it, fix it.

The idle speed control solenoid is embedded in the intake manifold. Go online to an autoparts site and look up the part. You can see a photo or the part and know what you are looking for or go to an autoparts store and see the part.

I hope my solution is helpful. Please rate my soluton.

Transmission problem

The lock up converter might have stayed in lock up,if you where going less than 30 miles a hour this maybe the case, otherwise the transmission has a bad problem in the differental, the gears have locked in it.

My 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Will die going down the road. Sometimes it starts back up without me touching the key.other times I have to wait a few minutes before it will crank again.Any suggestions? Thank...

I've got to be reading this incorrectly...You are driving, the engine turns off...you pull off the road? And then without touching the key the engine re-starts, but you haven't touched the key? Or, sometimes you need to sit there for a few minutes and then turn the key to start it?

Put a new transmission it the van and its doing the same as the other one did . you put in gear and go down the road and it seems like it wont shift in all the gears

Try changing the fuel filter. If your engine is starving for fuel, it can feel like transmission problems. Did you change the speed sensor when you changed trannys?
