I just recently experienced the same problem. The timing is 180 degrees out. Unfortunately the only way to correct it is to take the engine apart again. Set the right hand camshaft to TDC by using the marks on the timing gear for that bank. The left will follow to the degree it can although you will have to manually hold the cam in position when you put the timing gear back on. Now you can remove the timing chain. The crank TDC indicator may not be right on but it will be close. Rotate the crank CW one revolution to the point the TDC marks are lined up. Now install the timing chain according to the instructions. The timing gears on the camshafts will only go on one way as the bolt holes are slightly off the extreme diameter of the gear. If you put the chain back on making sure that all the marks are proper, she'll fire on the second cylinder up. Not a fun job I know, but when everything works right, you do get a sense of satisfaction.

You likely have bent valves. Do a compression check.

There should be plated links on those chains too. There is an index dot in both cams on each head that set at the twelve o'clock position.

remove and retime your distributor, sounds like it's 180 degrees out of time.

Sounds like your distributor is bad, but first check your distributor and rotor to see if that's the problem, if not then i would say its the distributor.

Don't have access to timing change or water pump after taking the weel off. 2001 chrysler sebring 2.7l

There's a plastic splash shield between the wheel and the engine that must be removed. If you're stuck here, don't even try to do this job. It is a HUGE undertaking, involving removing the timing cover, timing chain, and a lot of accessories before you get to the water pump. See the link.

Slight metal shavings are in oil & minor oil sludge in 2001 chrysler sebring v6 2.7 engine & has random starting failure. Is it worth it to pay high price to replace water pump and timing kit?

i would say the metal is from the bearings. a timing chain would be a waste of effort at this point. if you get a used engine with 70000 miles or more, i would replace the water pump and probly the timing chain.if you get later model engine the flywheel and camshaft gear will have to be changed or it wont run.

Replace water pump on 2001 chrysler sebring

if you have the 2.4 engine, the water pump is external and driven by the timing belt.you need a water pump - timing belt component kit. the 2.7 has a internal water pump driven by the timing chain. here again you should install a water pump- timing kit. 2.7 is more complex and expensive to change

This is called the water pump weep passage which is a sign that your seal in the water pump has failed.

You need to replace the water pump.

How do I replace the water pump on a 2003 Chrysler Sebring Convertible with 2.7 liter engine?

Dont try this at home. Get a shop to replace it and check the timing chain components. If its not done right, bent valves wil be your New Years present. I recommend this. http://www.fix27engine.com/
