My engine light in my 2006 Cobalt will not go off. It has done this before like almost 6 months ago and then went away and never came back until now. I'm just wondering if maybe something it screwed up in it.

I dont think anything is screwed up... when the check engine light comes on on goes means it corrected itself... now that its on again asensor could be going bad,,, to find out what it is you can go to autozone they will check it for free and tell you whats wrong..... hopes this helps....

Sounds like your crankshaft sensor is bad. It will stop working if bad and will leave you stranded. GOod luck.

Even though you replaced the sensor, and the light went out, the computer still retains the original codes until the codes are cleared using a scan tool. It's possible the computer has put the engine in a reduced power mode because the trouble codes haven't been cleared.
