My car smells like its overheating , like antifreeze but its not running hot or leaking

Sounds like you have a pinhole leak in a hose which is spraying coolent on a hot engine part that evaporates it on contact making it hard to track down.

Overheating

Most common reason for overheating is 1. low coolent lvl 2. faulty thermostat (stuck closed). 3. Faulty water pump preventing coolent from circulating through engine.

Check coolent lvl in radiator when engine is cool by removing the cap and filling it up till you can see the coolent, replace cap and try. If you have the proper lvl of coolent. Replace your thermostat, which is located under the thermostat housing (right underneith where your top radiator hose connects). Fill with coolent and see if that helps. Next test is to start the car and let it run till it gets to normal operating temp or near (180 to 220 degrees F) Pinch your upper radiator hose and see if you can feel a gush, or flow of water rush through the hose when you release your pinch hold on the hose, (by pinch, I mean to try and totally squeeze the hose together) If you don't feel the rush of coolent through the hose, then your waterpump is faulty. If your car quits overheating, but your heater hoses don't get hot, then they are probably stopped up at the point where they connect to the engine. Its a common area for gunk, rust, and corrosion to build up.

There is a tap or valve on the heater or hose that controls the hot water to the heater radiator, make sure this is working and not closed or broken.

I have a probelm with my coolent on my 94 celica, im sure i have a leak on the lower radiator hose but when i put water in the radiator and run the car there is no leak. when i come back to my car after...

The reason the leak stops when it's running is because the lower hose is the suction line to the engine, Of course it will leak when enough pressure builds up, running or not. You need to find and repair the leak before you blow a head gasket or worse. Usually fans don't come on untill 205, 210 degrees'

My 1996 Maxima leaks water from what looks like a hose going into the front of the engine block

ok check the hose if its very soft feeling you may need to replace sounds like a coolent hose. also make sure the hose is tight on the block fitting maby the band has worked loose may just need to be tightned, then refill your radiatior with new fluid. you should be fine. remember to do this after the car is completly cool you dont need a coolent burn and it will stay hot awhile so its best to get the hose you need [if you need one] the day before with the coolent, that way you can do it first thing in the morning when its cool. also if green coolent comes out green coolent goes back if orange coolent comes out orange coolent goes back in. never mix those typs of coolents they are not compatible.. you will probily loose all you coolent so drain it at the bottom of radiator before you start. unless you like laying in it to work on the hose. then refill all is well.. i hope this helped you.. also youtube has alot of good videos on radiator type stuff just type in radiator hose replace and you should get alot of videos on how to do it. who knows they may even have one with the same model as your car.. again i hope this helps good luck

Most likely have a coolant leak somewhere. Could be the radiator, hoses, coolant reservoir, water pump. Get it resolved asap, wouldn't want to pull over to have your car rolling in it's coolant..

My 2001 mazda millenia ran hot, we put water in it and it still ran hot does it sound like the thermostat?

If your car ran hot, you may need to check the radiator for a leak. You always need to add antifreeze/coolant when you add water to your car. Check you owner's manual for the type they suggest and the proper mix of water to antifreeze/coolant. I had to get a head on my motor shaved when my car ran hot and later I had to get the hoses replaced. My radiator cap died following my replacing the radiator as it was plastic and when the car overheated it damaged the cap. How long was the car running hot? You don't want to be a penny wize or a pound foolish when it comes to engine overheating problems. You can repair on the cheap now and pay a lot more in the long run. Also, in the future when your car runs hot, you can turn on the heater --yes even when it is hot outside--I recommend opening up the windows. The heater fan will help to dissipate the heat from the car engine. It does work. I hope these help. Also go to a reputable repair shop. It could be your thermostat they can have check valves which get messed up but you need to check to see if it is your radiator or if there is a leak there or in a hose.
