The button on the bottom of the mirror is called the auto rear view dimming.
This button when turned on will dim the lights of the car behind you if they are bright lights. it is like the older cars where you would flip the lever on the bottom of the mirror if a car behind you had high beam lights on and it was shining in your eyes at night. this will do it automaticly hope this helps good day
Just wanted to clear up my answer, the mirror will make the cars headlights behind you look dim by dimming the look of the lights in the mirror . this way as you drive the glare from the car behind you will not bother you, the mirror darkens until glare is gone then lightens back up. good day.
