There are MANY engine control malfunctions that can cause the engine control system to default to "Reduced Power Mode".

Reduced Power Mode is simply a computer strategy that was created by the vehicle manufacturers to keep people from doing dumb things like continuing to operate the vehicle with the "Check Engine" or other warning lamps YELLING at them to get their car properly diagnosed and repaired. Reduced Power Mode is also designed to protect the vehicle from further damage in certain cases.

Ignoring the warning lamps can cause safety issues as well as damage HIGH DOLLAR parts like catalytic converters, which the vehicle manufacturers are responsible for due to Federal Emissions and Safety laws.

As for whether it is covered under warranty....
Many major components of your engine control system are covered under the Federally-Mandated 8-Year 80,000 mile emissions warranty. The ONLY way to find out if your particular failure is covered is to have the vehicle first diagnosed to determine what is CAUSING the failure. Then you must check with an authorized dealer to see if the part (or parts) causing the problem are covered.

SOURCE: SES light then Reduced engine power light, loss of engine power

Hi It me Mohammad Siddiq my dear. First of all it will be wise of use to take your vehicle to a dealership or any other fully equipped w/shop. They can better tell you what the fault your vehicle has. But at the same time if your friend has the same model vehicle so you can exchange some parts with that vegicle, e.g., Mass Air Flow or TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) and can check your vehicle. These parts do not need to be programmed with scan tool. Just Simply replace these parts and switch on the ignition and wait for 01 minute, then switch off for 30 seconds and then start the engine. Now road test your vehicle, if no SES light or reduced power then there was fault with the part/s replaced. So Return those parts and now you must replace these parts with new or used ones. Anything else I may be contacted on my yahoo id [email protected]. Thanks. I am an auto technician and working in a GM dealership in Saudi Arabia. I am from Pakistan.

SOURCE: I HAVE A 2001 LINCOLN LS, I HAVE BEEN HAVING A

i would first pressure test the cooling system. 15psi and hold it for a few minutes. to make sure you didn't crack the cyl.head or block. also if you think it is just a faulty gauge you can get a temp. reading from the engine (by the thernostst housing) where the radiator hose comes out of the engine. 180 - 200 degress should be normal. it should be higher than the thermostat should allow.

2007 3500 6 Leader 4x4 when I turn the AC on my truck goes to reduced engine power what will cause it I changed the Throttlebody and it still does it

Switching on the aircon will rob the engine of a handful of horses but most people most of the time won't notice. Could be the problem goes deep.

By 2007 most vehicles were digital computer controlled so it isn't easy to guess what is going on. I think you need a guy with a good scanner who knows how to use it who can gather and interpret live data.

My Golf 5 1.6 gave me the error message "engine fault garage". it has all of a sudden lost its power. what could be the problem?

Reduced engine power or "Limp Mode" is caused by a wide variety of reasons. Basically, the ECU (the brain) has detected a problem and it switches to this mode to allow you to drive slowly to safety instead of just shutting down in a possibly hazardous situation like a busy junction or road etc.
The only way to be absolutely sure of the problem is to get the codes read using a special reader. Sometimes it is nothing more than a faulty sensor, but the ECU reacts to what it is told

I drive a kenworth t600 tractor. Engine shut down while driving no power glided to side of road what would cause the engine to shut down in mid stride

Check coolant level or possibly a bad coolant level sensor. If either of these are at fault, it can cause the engine to shut down or run with reduced power to keep from damaging the engine. Had this problem with a 2005 Freightliner w/ Detroit engine. (bad coolant level sensor)

What causes the "Reduced Engine Power", "Service Stability Control" and "Traction Control" warning lights to come on?

the "Reduced Engine Power", problem causes the PCM to disable "Service Stability Control" and "Traction Control" turning on the warning lights to come on for those systems . The reduced engine power is because of a problem with the electronic throttle control system or as GM calls it TAC system . Reduced Engine Power Mode
When the PCM detects a condition with the TAC system, the PCM may enter a reduced engine power mode. Reduced engine power may cause one or more of the following conditions:
• Acceleration limiting--The PCM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control, however, the vehicle acceleration is limited.
• Limited throttle mode--The PCM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control, however, the maximum throttle opening is limited.
• Throttle default mode--The PCM will turn OFF the throttle actuator motor and the throttle will return to the spring loaded default position.
• Forced idle mode--The PCM will perform the following actions:
- Limit engine speed to idle by positioning the TP, or by controlling the fuel and spark if the throttle is turned OFF.
- Ignore the accelerator pedal input.
• Engine shutdown mode--The PCM will disable fuel and de-energize the throttle actuator.

Reduced Engine Power Error on my 2005 YukonXL

The vehicle is going into a "limp" mode. There is a problem with either engine/transmission that is causing this. The vehicle needs to be scanned for codes to narrow down the problem. Unfortunately at this time, more information is needed to further diagnose. This mode is normal and is a type of default so the vehicle can at least get you off the road and repaired.
