I have a problem with a 2004 chevy avalanche that im working on my battery is getting drained in about 4 hours of sitting. I traced the battery draw to the Door Lock, DDM, PDM, ECC, Accessory Fuse.

When the fuse is in the battery drains in about 4 hours also the check engine light will not work at all and after removing the key from the ignition the battery light and the PRND12 light stay lit and they never turn off. Once I remove the fuse everything seems to be working properly and my battery doesn't drain. The only problem is that the door locks will not work. I disconnected both the driver and passenger door modules to see if I would see any difference but something is still drawing the battery power when the fuse is in the fuse block in the engine compartment.

Thanks anyways guys. I found the problem somebody had mickey moused some wires behind the fuse box inside the truck. They were taking power from the doorlock fuse to supply the transmission solenoids with direct power. This truck has transmission harness issues as well. As soon as I cut the wire they had rigged the problem went away. I tell you the things people do to sell a used vehicle. I feel bad for my customer for buying this truck from a bogus used car dealership.

You have a wire issue on the door lock system a power wire is going to ground and draining the system. The fuse should have blown so that tells me the problem may only happen when the doors are closed. Turn off the dome light and start by leaving the fuse in and opening the drivers door and see if it drains in 4 hours. if not that is where the problem is. If not repeat with each door until all have been tested, If you still don't find the short you may check and see if there has been a recall for this problem. Otherwise take it to a shop that specializes in Auto electric. These problem can take months to find and it is will worth the cost to have a pro do it.

The only way really to get to this is to Pull the Door Panel and Check the Wiring and See if there is not a Relay Inside of the Door Panel. You will need some new Door Panel Fasteners to replace the ones that Break when you remove the Panel. You can get these at any Auto Parts Store and they don't Cost that much. Let me know what you Find!

Probably wired to the wrong power wire. You need to go to the key on side of the wire instead of before it.

I have a 2004 Range Rover HSE . I had to boost the car many times after its been sitting for over 48 hours. I have replaced the battery by an OEM one but i still get the battery light flashing in the dash....

Sometimes that $125 an hour is worth it compared to the cost of replacing parts.....Define weak for the alt? They are either good or they are bad. If the voltage or current is low then there is a failure. What is your running voltage at idle? if it is 13v or lower than the battery is not getting a proper charge and will go dead from the draw of normal backup items. Also check all battery cables and grounds.

I am having an issue with the battery completely dead when the truck sits for more than an hour or so. I have replaced the battery, alternator, and starter, with no luck. I have a drain from somewhere...

I would not have replaced any parts that were not proven bad......if the battery is dead in 1 hour, that's a HUGE draw. take the positive battery cable off and wire in a headlight or some kind of light, if its bright, start taking out fuses until it goes out. that fuse will have the problem item on its circuit. . trace all components on that circuit for the draw. that's a quick and dirty redneck way to find a draw, but sometimes it works. whatever is drawing the battery down should be warm/ hot. so if the truck is cold, make sure the battery is good/charged, and feel what is warm...

1. Place the ignition switch in the off position.
2. Remove the HVAC/ECAS fuse for 10 seconds or more. It's in the under hood fuse box. Put the temp in full cold.
3. Install the fuse.
4. Start the engine. DO NOT TOUCH THE HVAC CONTROLS FOR LESS THAN 45 SECONDS.
5. Have any codes cleared with a scan tool.
