The only way i have ever done it to say put a new fuel sending unit or pump in is by having the car on a host and un bolting the tank straps that hold the tank up to the car and dump the fuel into a bucket.
other wise a syipohine pump found at auto or hardware stores

Draining fuel tank

the FSM book covers this. (ill do the full tank pull... as you never said the JOB!)
its siphoned to near empty. (use a hand pump for fuel , sold at all boat center)
do you need the FSM page quotes?
on some cars there is an anti-spill roll over check valve
at tank fill port making siphoning very hard.
my answers are USA cars, on this USA forum.... and swifts vary big time world wide..... dig?

quoted. (no smoking no open flames, outdoors best. no shop heaters of ANY KIND near)
"tank pull steps. (sure drained)
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Relieve the pressure from the fuel system. (in the FSM)
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Remove rear seat cushion.
  5. Disconnect connectors of fuel tank wire harness.
  6. Hoist vehicle.
  7. Disconnect fuel tank filler hose and breather hose from filler neck.
  8. As fuel tank has no drain plug, drain fuel tank by pumping fuel out through fuel tank filler or fuel tank inlet. Use hand operated pump to drain fuel tank.
    1. Disconnect fuel pipe joints and fuel hose from pipes. For quick joint, disconnect it as follows:
      • Remove mud, dust and/or foreign material between pipe and joint by blowing compressed air.
      • Unlock joint lock by inserting special tool (part No. 09919-47020) between pipe and joint.
      • Disconnect joint from pipe.
    2. Remove fuel tank from vehicle.

Have water in fuel Suzuki xl7 how do I drain the tank

no year, huh? some years have a check valve , there,....
this forum is for usa cars, is car USA car?
the tanks just dont like siphoning. (check valve)
the FSM covers this , in the fuel section under bad pump.
1998 to 2006, ill guess, 06

i have the FSM and does not cover. bad fuel, no drain plug.

it shows how to get fuel lower, in filler neck
the tank has check valve at it its metal neck.
so inserting a hose in filler, will hit this check valve.
and all you get out , is 1/2 fuel.
id use the tank out procedure.
then empty all fuel, after step 5.
quote:
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Relieve fuel pressure in fuel feed line.
  3. Due to absence of fuel tank drain plug, drain fuel tank by pumping fuel out through fuel tank filler.
  4. Use hand operated pump device to drain fuel tank.
  5. Remove fuel tank.

tip tank to drain the remainder. out

here is one more way. (IDEA!)
do 1-4
then tip car to left. Jacks then stands at frame.
then remove the filler hose on tank
remove that pesky check valve. from neck last.

and pump out the rest.

2001 crystler town & country fuel pump

The Fuel pump is in the tank. The only thing I disagree with in emissionwiz post is whether to drain the tank or not. Chrysler started putting drains on the tanks in 2000 to make this easier when they went to a plastic fuel tank. I would drain the tank from the drain, disconnect the wiring then drop the tank to replace the pump. This all assumes that you verified that the fuse in the interior panel is not blown and the fuel pump relay in the power distribution box under the hood is still good.

How do I change the fuel filter on a 2006 2.4lt Chrysler PTCruiser. Do I need to remove the tank? Do I need to drain the tank? Finally how often do I need to change the Fuel Filter

your cars fuel filter is inside your fuel tank along with the fuel pump....you need to remove the back seat to give way in removing the top cover of the fuel tank that holds the fuel pump and filter...no need to drain the tank with its fuel...fuel filter replacement interval is every 20,000 km. or 12500 miles.

How to rmove fuel from fuel tank of 2000 chevy express van?

Some fuel tanks have a drain **** that will allow you to drain all of the gas neatly. If you have a drain ****, it will be located at the lowest point on the tank. Loosen the valve and allow the gas to completely drain.
If your tank has no drain ****, you'll have to drain it by removing one of the fuel lines. The rubber hose that exits the tank at its lowest point will drain the tank fully. It will either be connected to an electric fuel pump, fuel filter, or to a hard fuel line that goes to the front of the car. Loosen the clamp on the end of the line that connects to the gas tank. Pull the hose off and allow the gas to run out of the tank into your container until it is drained completely.
