Grandpa had rf door put on at a shop that is no longer in business and now i own the car and trying to figure out why the dome light stays of while door is shut..if u barely open the door then the light goes off...as u open the door further the light comes and and off depending on the door placement..please help
Sounds like there is a loose ground wire inside the door panel, but the doorjam switch should be what determines the off and on. It is located in the doorjam.
Sometimes the wiring that goes through the doorjam can hide a broken wire inside. There are more connections in the drivers door because it is the Master location for all the other locks and windows.
Go to Autozone.com for wiring diagrams for free. Just register your car and you can get chassis diagrams to show where the wires are for that circuit.
If you are going to fool around with the wiring, disconect the battery first. The only big thing is the controls for the outside mirror can make the removal of the door a little more difficult.

EASY. with key turned to ON, you will see a small hole on bottom of steering column cover about an inch from the steering wheel. take a small screwdriver or coat hanger rod and find the little button about 2 inches from where you inserted the key, now depress that button (up) and with the button depressed, pull out the cylinder. If you have the new cylinder, you will see where the button is in relation to the end/ Cylinders are made by Motorcraft, Ford and Standard. and will come with 2 new keys.
