Sounds like there is a loose ground wire inside the door panel, but the doorjam switch should be what determines the off and on. It is located in the doorjam.

Sometimes the wiring that goes through the doorjam can hide a broken wire inside. There are more connections in the drivers door because it is the Master location for all the other locks and windows.

Go to Autozone.com for wiring diagrams for free. Just register your car and you can get chassis diagrams to show where the wires are for that circuit.

If you are going to fool around with the wiring, disconect the battery first. The only big thing is the controls for the outside mirror can make the removal of the door a little more difficult.

SOURCE: I need help replacing a 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis

EASY. with key turned to ON, you will see a small hole on bottom of steering column cover about an inch from the steering wheel. take a small screwdriver or coat hanger rod and find the little button about 2 inches from where you inserted the key, now depress that button (up) and with the button depressed, pull out the cylinder. If you have the new cylinder, you will see where the button is in relation to the end/ Cylinders are made by Motorcraft, Ford and Standard. and will come with 2 new keys.

Dome light inside 2009 mercury marquis won't go off. What can I do?

Common Mercury problem, a sticking door ajar switch inside one of the door latches. Get you some WD40 and spray inside all the door latches making sure you use a good amount on each, operate each quite a bit, 5-10 times to let the WD40 work on each. This should take care of the problem. Repeat if you need to get results.

I bet your dome light is coming on after you close the door. Keep doing what you are, or prepare to dig deep.

I want to turn my dome light off while my door is open. i dont want the light to come on while my door is open. help please

unfortunatly some of the mercury's came with a instant on dome light that will always come on once the door is opened, and stays lit for a period of time then slowly fades out, if this is the case with yours,, there isn't much you can do about it unless, you remove the lens cap and pull the bulb, removing the fuse that runs this light will also dismantle other items in the cab compartment

Dome light will not go out

Check that the headlight switch is not turned the whole way to turn the dome lights on. If that is okay start checking the door switches one of them has gone bad and needs replaced. You will have to pull the switch out of the door jam to check the switch.

Door ajar light on

A trick to try first and this works the majority of the time. Take a can of WD40 and open each door and spray a generous amount into each latch on the side of the door. Then open and close the door several times. Most of the time this will unstick the door adjar switch.

Check the switch near to the door latch, check also wiring from door latch to fuse cable, there must be a contact between to wires.
