1997 Nissan Altima problem

1997 Altima. 2 mechanics have replaced the alternator in the last 2 years. The last alternator was put a month ago. In the last month everytime the key got close to the ignition the dash board would glow. If the lights are on the brake lights would not work. 2 days ago the car went off as i was driving. the key turns amd makes normal noise but not engaging. all my lights are working fine without dimming.

Check your battery fuse mine just also did that and it was the fuse under the hood. Location of fuse box is by the battery and it should be the big fuse close to the middle

The check engine light is on and the car some times will not start. The battery and alternator have been replaced about 6 months ago and this problem has been accruing for the last 2 months.

sounds like you have a crank sensor problem. I would go to an autozone and get he could pulled for free and see if it is either a p0725 or p0335 and check back with me.

Going through alternators

Hi there, I am a girl (i.e. not car savvy), but I have a 1998 Altima as well, and the first time (4 months ago) I noticed the brake and battery lights on simultaneously, I took it to a Nissan service shop. Everything seemed fine until about a month ago when the symptoms returned. I ignored the problem for 3 days and the car just stopped running, period. Took it back to the shop, figured out it was a fauly alternator, got it sorted, no problem. Today (1 month after replacement), I see the same bloody problem, and I'm taking it back to the shop in the morning. I am wondering... is it the alternator, or something connected to the alternator that is malfunctioning? The 2 alternators put in were "rebuilt" since they didn't have genuine Nissan alternators available. I really hope the dealers aren't taking me for a merry ride.

03 nissan altima overheats, replaced both thermo 3days ago, water pump change was changed 11 month ago, today rad flush was done

A car when overheats means two things: (1) Timing may be off including electrical (2) bad head gasket. Chec for code reading with a OBDII reader to be more .
May need a tune up!

Alternator keeps going out

Have your battery checked before you put any more alternators in the car. If your battery has a dead cell or just needs replaced it could be making your alternators cover too much slack and burning them up.

1997 Maxima has had 4 alternators in 4 years!

Hey! I have a 97 Maxima SE and it runs great too! I have been through 4 alternators in 12 years....3 in the first 5 and finally one for the last 7. Make sure you have a new- Nissan part specific alternator. And, make sure your battery is not weak nor small for your car size. Hope this helps!
