Flashing Check Engine Light

I have a 2001 Volvo S60 T5.  About a week ago my check engine light came on, and then it went off and stayed off. It came back on yesterday and it was flashing while I was driving. I have an apt tomorrow for a diagnosis, but I was wondering if anyone knows what a flashing check engine light means. I have never seen that before.
To describe my cars behavior - it is idling a little rough, and is slow getting up to speed. Any ideas on what this could be?
Any knowledge you want to pass along would be appreciated. Thanks, Teresa

You were right! It was a misfire! Engine coil and spark for cylinder 3.  So they fixed the coil and I got a entire new set of spark plugs..

I also while I was there had them check my timing belt, even though I am under the mileage volvo says -  they found a small crack. I figured with my luck the last couple weeks, just to go ahead and have it all fixed now!

THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!

What makes the Volvo S60 2T to vibrate when accelerating with an Engine light on and less power.

The engine light on means codes have been set. Read the codes and you may find an answer. Many parts stores will read the codes for free.

Why does my 2005 volvo s60 stalls while driving

Do you have a check engine light on? If so, take it to autozone and have them scan the engine codes for free then report back with the engine code. If no check engine light ; I would suspect a fuel pump problem ; because if you have a misfire / those shoot codes back.

I just changed the spark plugs in my Volvo s60 T5 and the check engine light still reads cylinder 3 misfires. What should I do?

Hi:
This fault could be a spark plug wire too, and even a coil pack, or distributor component. Keep up the hunt for the problem!

Catalytic converter check engine light 2001 s60 volvo

usually if you start to hear a rumble, and by rumble i mean it sounds like a bunch of pieces of metal are clanking around in your exhaust then the catalytic converter needs to be repaired. It could also be the oxygen sensor which is located on top of the converter. Volvo did an interesting job of having them sit on top of each other.
