2011 Traverse. Power steering problem.

It sounds like the pump is stalling under load, most likely because the belt is old. Get it replaced, and if the power steering fluid hasn't been changed in 3 years or more, have the system flushed and filled too. Power steering oil is hygroscopic, just like brake fluid. Not to the same extent (it's not as aggressive in absorbing moisture), but over time it does take in water, which then corrodes the insides of your power steering system.

97 nissan maxima replace power steering belt

Easy to do, but also easy to do wrong.

1. Find the belt.
2. Find the belt tensioner.
3. Find the belt tensioner adjuster screw.
4. Loosen the adjustment screw, and slack the belt.
5. Remove the belt.
6. Replace the belt.
7. Tension the belt using the adjustment on the belt tension adjuster.
8. Drive around and steer, easily.

Enjoy.

The steering becomes hard then easy then hard then easy. It is present when turning left and right.

I assume you've checked belt condition, belt tension, as well as fluid level?

How do you replace power steering belts?

Nice ride!! An oldie, but goodie. Should be easy to change the power steering belt on this one. Just loosen the mounting bolt and the adjusting bolt and push the pump toward the engine. That will loosen tension and allow you to remove the belt. Put the new belt on and move the pump out away from engine. You may have use something as a lever to help put the proper tension on, and while holding tension, tighten the mounting and adjustment bolts down. Proper tension is 1/4" deflection at the midway point on the belt. Hope this helped and best wishes.

How do you replace a serpentine belt on a mazda 626

A 626 has two belts. One drives the power steering and water pump (rear belt in 6 cyl) and other front belt drives the a/c and alternator. On the 4 cyl, the front belt drives the power steering and the a/c, and the rear belt drives the water pump and the alternator. All of these are easy to change.

A/c has a sound from it

Yes as long as you check with a shorter belt to make sure the shortened belt doesnt touch any other part.It would be easier to replace the clutch pack from the wreckers as it easy to remove from the compressor pump and replace.Pump doesnt have to come off engine. The biggest problem youll have if shortening the belt is that your power steer will likely be affected due to rotation speeds changing, anyway good luck and merry xmas

Power steering pump

your serpentine drive belt could be slipping over your power steering pump. Sounds like a premature failure from your pump. This is not an easy fix depending on the location of the pump itself. Remove your serpentine belt, locate the pump and pulley. Try to spin the pulley by hand. If there is alot of tension, your pump may need replacing. If not, try replacing the belt and check your belt tensioner for looseness.
