1990 Toyota Camry Questions & Answers
How do you take the front caliper off a 1990
You can sometime just pull it off but sometimes you will need to take a screwdriver and push the brake pad back on the caliber piston side. This will force the piston back and allow you to remove the caliber. After you remove it you will need to compress the caliber piston fully back in order to allow room the install the new pads and get them back on the rotor. Sometimes you can fully compress it while the caliber is still installed. On some vehicles like Honda you need a special tool in order to compress the caliber. Most auto parts stores will lend you the tool if you buy the pads from them. Be sure and loosen the master cylinder fill cap to allow the brake fluid to expand in the master cylinder. Clean everything off with spray brake cleaner before installing the new pads and clean the new pads throughly. Be sure and install pads in pairs. Do both front wheels or both back wheels not just one.
I need the timing marks for a 1990 toyota camry
He said it's a 2.0 Liter. 1990 and 91 are the same. the crank shaft pulley lines up with the "0" mark located on the lower portion of the timing belt/water pump/oil pump cover. the top cam pulley lines up with the hole and a small dimple in the engine block behind the pulley, it;s super irritating to find and see, to be sure it;s correct you can put a small dill bit backwards into that hole and look careful with a flash light, sucks but it works. why am i here? i wanted to know what the crank shaft is positioned at when the cover is not on so i don't have to install the pulley to find it again. I have accidentally moved everything when I was installing the belt after the water pump and all the other stuff. i think they should have put the marks on the block as well as the plastic cover.it's a pretty important thing after all. when the thing you are reading says somethings at 11 o clock, it means it;s at 11 o clock. Not 11 O clock after and earth quake tilts your house. the dimple in the engine lines the cam shaft pulley up with the hole in that pulley at 11 o clock. 12 being straight up 11 being behind that towards the windshield/passenger seat. when you are installing that timing belt make sure your slack that is going to get grabbed up when un blot the spring tensioner is coming from below. if there is slack between the water pump and cam shaft pulley it will still be there when you release the tensioner.
I have a 1990 toyota camry 4DSD, One day wail
I would start by checking the lead from the coil to the spark plug these are usually blue or orange leads and plug into the side of the motor if your car is a 4 Cylinder it will have 4 if it is a 6 Cylinder it will have 6.
Make shore that you have not nocked one of to do this make shore they are pushed on at both ends..
If you find one is loose push it on then take the car for a little drive to clean the plug.

Where do you spray the starting flued in a 1990 toyota camry
You can remove the cover of the air cleaner, pull aside the element, and spray it up the intake while someone cranks.
Try to use the minimum needed, a short puff or 2. A giant dose may cause damage if the engine starts in an explosive way.
Unless you are experiencing very cold weather, the required use of this stuff points to some underlying fault. If the engine runs on the starter spray, then dies, there is a fault with fuel delivery pressure. If it shows reluctance even with starter spray, there is a fault with the ignition, with bad timing a leading cause. In that case check the timing belt has not skipped a tooth, and that the ignition leads and plugs are OK.

1990 Camry ignition will not go under "acc" position.
In a Camry this age it is most likely that the key and lock both are worn. Toyota ignition key barrels are known to wear. Both old Toyotas I have had did this.
Go to an auto locksmith and explain that you want a key cut with a little extra metal on the profile, due to wear, and see if that works.
If not you need a new ignition key barrel (just the centre, not the electrical bits). It can be made to fit the old key, however you might decide not to bother doing that as it isn't much trouble to have 2 keys for the car.
