high pressure and low pressure. combined, they cost around $400 at dealers but can be found cheaper online.
labor at a shop to replace both lines calls for 2.3 hours, so you will pay their cost per hour of labor.
plus shop fees and tax. (fees cover shop supplies like fluid, gloves, etc)
If the problem is the power steering pump itself, the average cost at shops for the part is $450 (part only) plus 1.6 hours of labor.

if the issue is the steering rack itself, you can find that part online for $350 on average.
If you just let the shop order the steering rack, they may hit you for $1,200-$1,400 just for the part, and labor times for that job is 4.2 hours.

PS sign indicates problem with power steering. most likely is has electrically assisted steering and needs attention. may want to contact the dealer to make sure it is not under a recall before pursuing any further. the Prius cars have had alot of problems recently.

some other garages can diagnose this problem m8 but its not wise as there not used to the system there gonna charge about 70pound to look at it, how old is the car? it might still be under warrenty, it should not have done to much damage though.

Hi. When you have that particular light on, you need to get the power steering motor checked. This is not something that a non-Toyota service shop can check out. You need to take it to a Toyota dealer. They can check the steering motor system, and diagnose exactly what the issue is. Unfortunatly, there is no other way you can check it, as there is not "pump" on the stweering, it is actually a small motor that runs the steering.

check ball joints and tire rod first the clunking is a tati tale thet your ball joints are shot

Looking at the age of the vehicle - I would not invest $5000 in it.

Look in your local business pages for second-hand parts dealers, and get a quote for small garages to do the work of replacing it.

Chances are you will find a low-milage transmission for $250, and pay around $200 to have it installed - so for $450 you're good to go again.
If this was a younger vehicle, then yes I would go through dealerships to keep the logbook perfect; But at this age it's only 3 years off it's designed lifetime, and 10 year old vehicles are very low priced.

This violent shaking where you can stop it by holding the steering wheel in my experience is due to a BAD rack and pinion. Replace rack and that will solve this problem. Good Luck and thanks for using FIX YA

A dealer doubles the price, I worked in dealers my whole working life, you would not believe how cheap the technicians could buy parts compared to the customer price.

Sound like PS is standing for power steering.try checking your power steering unit for fluid to see if it is low and if it is check for leaks.Garages are out to make money not save you any! LoL
