I cannot open the left rear door on my 2000 C Sierra from the inside or the outside. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix it?
Hello,
You may have 2 issues going on at the same time.
1. The child lock safety latch is up, preventing you from opening the door from the inside.
2. The inside clip to the rod that opens the door from the out side could of come off from closing the door to hard. Or the lock itself is getting stuck.
Options:
Roll the window all the way down, and look through the window crack with a flash light and see if any of the rods are just hanging and not connected.
If there are you can try using a slim jim with the cut out part facing up and try to catch the latch and pull up this could open the door.
Or you can try to take off the door panel from the inside, however this is very difficult and should be done by a professional becuse you don't want to break any thing or cause more dammage.
Once the door panel is off you can then pull the inside door release rod and open the door.
One more thing you can try: Pull the inside handle and the out side handle at the same time while having some on pull or push on the door, it just might be stuck and need a little force to open!

The door had one of the rods come loose when I shut the door. I heard some fall to the bottom well of the door. It won't open now. I unscrewed the handle for opening the door from the outside (accessable when the driver's door is opened) and could reach the loose rod and pull up with a pair of long nose pliers. It partial opened but the top of the door won't release.
I'm stuck. I can't remove the door panel without opening the door.
Guess I need to take it to a shop.
