My 2004 ranger XLT v6 4l 4x4 started shaking, and CEL came on. Only has a little over 30,000 miles on it. In April had new brakes and a oil change at dealer. I checked the transmission fluid and have found that the dealer has over filled it. CEL stays on and at times blinks. When it blinks I can't get any power no matter how far i push the gas. When the blinking stops I get power. Had test at Auto zone have codes OEM number to Cross: P0300 : P0306 : P0316 Can't find a air leak any where. Changed # 6 spark plug. No change. After changing plug I pulled plug wire no change, Thank you for any help you can give.

Test the #6 coil to verify that it has spark, you may have a bad coil

Do I need to replace transmission fluid?

Forget the dash reminder gadgets or manufacture
maintenance schedules
You change trans fluid every 3 years
If you want to change at 30,000 miles that's
perfect,just don't go past 3 years & do power
steering at same time

My 2004 deville shifts a little rough at different speeds. It seems to do it when the car is warm to hot.It does not leak.Would a transmission flush help the problem? It has 76000 miles.we bought it with...

You Change Trans & Power Steering Fluids every
30,000 miles on ALL Vehicles

I don't suggest flushing,some people do

If you want to chance having problems get
it flushed

You remove all the fluid it may just start to slip

You have to understand that fluid changes DO NOT FIX
A THING

The fluid removes heat & breaks down
That is why it is changed

I would assume you don't flush brake fluid every 2 years
Trans & Steering every 3 years,not over 30,000 miles
Spark Plugs at 60,000 miles

When you buy a used vehicle you lay it up for two weeks
& work on it,never drive it
All Preventative maintenance gets done,regardless
of what you were told about the vehicle

Does the transmission fluid ever have to be changed? 5.4 L auto

hi yes the transmision fluid starts to brake down and gets thinner, normally it is best changed every 30,000 miles ( some say 60,000 ) but i find that it starts to burn and thin arround 30,000 so best to replace it early, you can use MERCON fluid which is best for this vehicle......hope this helped

My 2004 Ford Ranger brakes ware out every 6 months. The orginal brakes lasted about 30K miles. Replacement brakes last about 6-10K miles. I also have to replace the rotors. This is not normal. How can I...

Somewhere along the line you are getting ripped off.Unless you are racing around Daytona the figures are wrong.Do you tow a huge load every day or really give it to the truck. No?
30,000 might sound ok so your replacement is wrong.
Change shops.Whoever is working on the truck is wrong.
Brakes are designed to last with standard use about 60000 kms(35000mls) and that is on the front.Rears are diff.
If you get work done on the car from the same person,be there.Make them show you the brake pad thickness, the disc thickness and how much it was at the last service.I mean look at the brakes as it is being done,Don't take their word.To many ripoffs around.Hope this helps

Brake maintenance

It really depends on the type of driving you do most of. Highway miles very little wear, mostly city driving alot of wear.
Rule of thumb is usually front around 30,000 and rear around 50,000.

Need maintenace schedule

Spark plugs at 100,000 (use AC Delco plugs, they work best), check air filter at 15,000 replace at 30,000, replace fuel filter at 30,000, service (fluid and new filter) automatic trans at 60,000, replace hoses and flush cooling system at 100,000 miles, (use long life coolant), check belt at 30,000, replace if any rubber in ribs is missing, cracks are ok per factory bulletin's. oil and filter at least every 5,000 miles, lube chassis every other oil change, more often if u drive short trips, lube the door hinges and hood hinges and all latches every 30,000 miles. If I missed anything you want to know let me know. one last note manual trans and differential change lube only if torn down for repair, otherwise it is lifetime.

Tune up

At 60,000 you should have all the major things done if you haven't already:
oil change(every 3000)
air filter change(every 15,000)
coolant flush(every 30,000)
spark plugs and wires(every 30,000)
transmission fluid & filter change(every 30,000)
brakes (as needed)
PCV valve (every 20,000)

You can wait until about 75000 miles to do your timing belt.

Hope this helps

Front Brakes

Replace the brake pads, then sand the lines and spray them with undercoating. If you dont want to sand lines just spray the undercoating. They will last longer if you sand them. This is available at your local auto parts store
