You adjust the handbrake by removing the rear drums and cleaning the dust out then the lip on the outside of the interior of the drum and then adjusting manually .(rear drums) adjusting the cable only will result in the vehicle not passing the brake tester on the annual vehicle mechanical inspection

How to adjust handbrake

If you remove the center console you should be able to get at your adjusting screw. The end of the brake cable where it attaches to the brake handle will usually have a large threaded area for adjustment with an adjustment nut and a jamb nut. Simply loosen the jamb nut and set the desired cable tension with the adjustment nut and tighten the jamb nut back down. Then replace the console. If you are unable to get the desired tension at the cable you might have worn brake shoes that need replacing.

Handbrake adjusment

slacken off the HB cable (under the centre console there's a nut on the handle, loosen it all the way to the end) take the rear wheels off, with a short flat blade screwdriver go through the elongated hole in the backing plate of the drums (probably has a rubber bung in it) and feel for a ratchet wheel, move it up 3-4 clicks or until there is 25-30 newton meters of drag on the brakes. Repeat on the other side, then tighten the nut back up on the handbrake handle until the handbrake is tight at 6 or clicks from off

The handbrake feels slightly loose on my suzuki wagon r, I know there is a nut to tighten the handbrake but I do t know where. Any answers?

If it is an actual handbrake, sometimes you will have to pull apart your center console a bit to get at it but the nut is under there or under the arm rest. Sometimes there is an access panel in the lower rear part of the center console.

How do I tighten the hand brake cable on my 94 Toyota Tercel?

First make sure the rear breaks are ajusted or replaced when worn out drum to be skeemed aswell. Usally whe rear brakes are ajusted hand break will stop car on two to four clicks on hand brake rachet. If brakes is ajusted check cables for wear . Then ajust cable insite car remove hand brake cover and you will see a ajustable screw or nut. Rememeber to put the handbrake on four clicks and dont tighten screw or nut to much the brakes will lock

Hand brake ajustment on a 1994 toyota carina

remove the rear drums then inspect and manually adjust the shoes auto adjuster ,clean the lip off on the outside of the drum so the shoes just about allow the drum on ,this is the correct way not screw the cable setting up to max ,do it my way and the brake pedal will be hard as you have reduced the reserve travel and the handbrake will have two /three clicks ,when you do this make sure the rear brake shoes which have trhe handbrake lever ,make sure this lever is right back if not slacken the handbrake cable to allow the cable to come back in case some weekend mechanic or a dealer fitter has tightened the cable only ,the former as they dont know and the later because their on bonus payment

How do i adjust the handbrake on my mx3 its the 1.8 v6 with rear disc brakes

theres only two places a adjustment would be the easest way is to lift your handbrake three clicks either under the handle you will see a nut on a threaded bolt turn the nut in until the slack makes tighten hard dont over tighten push button drop handle back down now if the adjustment nut is not under the handle under the car you will see your rear cables going into a single cable all three joined by a adjustment bolt with nut hold with pliers three clicks up on handle turn nut in till slack is gone drop handle back down

Toyota yaris

The handbrake adjustment is at the handbrake. Pull off the rubber boot around the hand brake. (it pulls open at the botto of the handle and slips off over it). Next locate the 10mm bolt under the rear cup holder (there may be a little felt in there covering it). Remove the bolt.

Lift the console at the rear, it should pop loose at the front and lift up. You should have clear access to the adjustment bolt. Loosen the 10mm locking nut and this should allow you to adjust the cable.

Turn the adjustment clockwise to tighten the cable and once adjusted, re-tighten the locking nut. Reverse the whole process to put the console etc back together.
