with the engine off, key on. If it's still in lo range, you may have to get under the truck and shift the linkage manually. While you are under there, check the electrical connections and vacuum lines

linkage problem. I usually see this problem with a console shift unit and the solution is to turn the collar on the steering column by hand to get it in gear properly. You have to count the positions.
