I have an external hard disk drive. It has a 160 GB transcend, Yesterday, all things were working OK, but today, when I insert the disk, my laptop gets hung. The disk is being detected, but after opening, it is not getting open up. It shows a pop up message? You can use your disk after formatting it?. I have tried to scan it by antivirus but it?s not getting scanned. I want to save my data. The disk?s name I had given was ?Transcend?. Today, It is not showing the name ?local disk?. How can I recover my Hard disk drive? I wonder, How it has broken down all of a sudden?. Is there any way to save my data? I don?t want to format it. How can I get my data? Is there any software to repair my hard disk?

Firstly, recover your data on the external hard drive with third party data recovery software. Then you can format it to check out whether it can be fixed.
For data recovery program,I have a professional one on my computer that can recover data after deeply scanning your hard drive to look for lost data due to drive crash, system sabotage, virus attack etc.You can download it and scan your hard drive for free to preview whether your data can be recovered. http://www.any-data-recovery.com/product/datarecoveryprofessional.htm

OK! It sounds like your drive has got some problems.
In order to get the inner stored data, you should always act carefully:
1. Do NOT click "Yes" to format the drive in case that the formatting process makes things worse.
2. Do NOT attempt to write anything new on this hard drive in case of any data loss.
3. Download data recovery software to help you. There are many data recovery tools out there. But, no all of them could be efficient and useful enough. You should pay much attention to opt for a proper one.
So, if you are interested, you can firstly try an external hard drive data recovery freeware:
http://freeware-fix.blogspot.com/2013/03/external-drive-data-recovery.html
It always can thoroughly scan a hard drive and do its utmost to restore all scanned data back successfully.
Here is some detailed information of this freeware:
http://www.freeware-fix.blogspot.com/2013/03/unformatted-hard-drive-recovery-freeware.html
4. Do not save or back up all the restored data on the same hard drive in case of any data loss.
5. After the data recovery process, simply format this drive to see whether it can work functionally as before.
In the future, you should learn a lesson to be more careful about your data and always back it up well.

MY Transcend external drive of 160 GB was working fine in my DVD player (Phillips) but after formating the same, the DVD player is not yet to read the contents (music, movies, etc). The file system...

Windows has limitation over 32GB,
you need to use a free tool like this:
http://tokiwa.qee.jp/EN/Fat32Formatter/Fat32FormatterEN.zip
unpack and use as following:

in Physical choose the disk carefully, you can erase your main disk accidentally,
click in the blue area and it change the color to green, (in this moment has a NTFS filesystem)
then choose Delete Partition and OK, the HD area change its color to grey,
choose again the grey area and again it change to green,
if you know very well your hard disk choose Quick Format, otherwise it could takes a long time to reformat.
Click on Start and it Makes the rest.

i hope this will help you!

MY TRANSCEND HARD DISK 320 GB IS NOT OPENING ON MY LAPTOP BUT IT IS SHOWN IN SAFELY REMOVE HARD DISK TELL WHAT TO DO? DHANANJAY PAWAR

The Transcend is "partially" working -- compare it to an automobile with a full tank of gasoline and a dead battery -- the car looks to be OK, but it will not start.

If the WARRANTY for the Transcend is still valid, then Transcend will replace the device, at their cost.

But, all your "data" stored onto the Transcend is "gone" -- not retrievable.

If you can open the enclosure, you can remove the disk-drive, replace it with a similar "new" disk-drive, and "revive" your external storage device (like a heart-transplant in a human being).

Transcend 320GB is recongized as "unformatted"

Here is an article with some ideas on how to solve issues with an external hard disk.

If it does not work, one last option is to take the hard disk out of the case and connect it directly to the SATA or IDE interface in your computer.

320 GB transcend external Hard dics is not at all detected

Hello,

First of all make sure that the USB port that you are using to connect it to your PC is a USB 2.0 port, and not USB 1.0.

Also if it came with an external power, connect it to the external power before putting on your PC.

This is because the voltage supplied by USB 1.0 is lower than that of USB 2.0 and therefore might not be enough to power up your USB Drive.

After making sure about this, power up your system, and plug the external drive, then Right-Click on my computer icon, select manage, then go to Disk Management Option.

On the Disk management option Page you should see ALL the drives installed on your system, including the hidden ones, so what you will just do is, try and locate the one representing your external drive, and right click on it. then select "Change Drive letter and Paths", and give the drive any new, unique letter (i.e alphabet) different from the ones already on your system, and click on OK.

This should make your external Drive to be detected automatically.

Hope this helps you out.
Goodluck!
