I have sony spp m920. I have had it for long time and it's really great. My problem is that the lcd on the handset is no longer working (it only shows fragments of numbers, etc.) this is the older model where the handset faces down when you hang it up. Is there some way I can get the handset lcd fixed? I hate to throw it away but without the lcd a lot of the phone's features are no longer there. thanks.

If you are getting fragments showing up it is more than likely the driver ic or the display chip has become defective, you are further ahead replacing the phone because it is not a cost effective to repair let alone trying to find parts for it.

If the hardware/physical part is ok, then it must be the battery. Are there any screws to open the handset or a small compartment in the back where batteries may be?

The cordless handset is not working

I suppose you put the handset back on the base unit so that they synchronise first.

Replaced battery in handset. Got a dial tone and all was well. Picked up handset later in the day and it was dead. Unplugged and reattached everything - no luck.

Try taking batteries out, but also unplug base station. The aim is to disperse all power in the phone so that it resets itself. I would leave everything unplugged for 24 hours and then reassemble and see if the problem has gone. Its worked for me loads of times with different electrical appliances. Hope that helps.

Broken handset

The weakness with the handsets was that women using hand lotion or hair gel can get it on the front of the keypad. It then works it's way to the back side of the rubber keypad. The oil gets on the powder carbon on the keypad. The Carbon shorts the copper on the phone to activate the #1 or #2, etc. When the oil mixes with the carbon the key no longer works. I replaced many keypads until Sony Supplies ran out.... A cheap home fix would be to open the handset and clean the #1 key and the circuit board. You can try the keys but if they don't have any carbon on them you can buy liquid carbon at Electronic Stores OR just paper punch a circle of alumimum foil. Glue the foil on the key with thin glue. Works....

Sony SPP-M920

The numbers have rubber keys and on the back is a dry conductive carbon to short the keys.

To fix, you can try to clean it or glue a small piece of aluminum foil on bottom of the rubber pad. They sell a carbon coating in a small bottle too.

Handset

Presume you are talking about the extra handset. Try placing the extra handset in the "main" base for 5 seconds.

In Use LED flashing constantly

Your phone may have lost registration to the base. 1) Try disconnecting the power to the base and then re-connecting the power with the cordless phone in the base. Give it a few seconds, then see if it works. 2) Try removing the battery, wait 10 seconds, re-install the battery and set the phone in the charger.
