I have a chimei smv221d 22 inch monitor. My issue is i have problems turning it on, can take between 5 mins and couples hours to turn on in bad times. It does work as i using the monitor now to write this post. Also when the monitor is on it normally stays on as long as i have computer on. The problem seems to be related to input from other devices namely the video card from my computer. If that cable is disconnect the monitor seems to work. ps i have tried on other computers so same issue so is not defective from computer side, also tried changing the cable from standard cable to the optional square shaped plug no difference. The problem seems to be from within monitor itself with the input area. Any advice would be appreciated. [email protected] appreciated

More likely to have dying power supply with unstable DC voltages due to bad DC filter caps, that will be the first place for you to look at as you can see in my albums of failed monitors and TV.

I have a 19" cmv

How old is it? If it still under warranty get it repaired, it sounds like the switch is gone or the energy saving s/w inside is bad and is not detecting when/when not to turn the display on/off.

When i turn my monitor on it shows no picture and it makes a sound like it is running the electricty went out and when it came back on thats when the trouble started thank you

It's time to spend $100 to buy a brand-new 19-inch LCD monitor,
or $200 to buy a brand-new 22-inch LCD monitor,
rather than paying a TV/CRT technician $50 to $75 per hour to try to fix the "antique" monitor.

I have exactly same problem

Sound like your display is having issues with the inverter board. When the power supply detects a short circuit, it turn off by itself. When you try several times, you may be able to "bypass" the circuit protection but the damaged parts still having problems. This issue may be related with the DELL display issues.

The display needs to be fixed by someone with experience in electronics repair.
