Craftsman tillers usually use a chain drive transmission. Sears does not usually offer individual parts for these transmission. They want you to replace the entire trans assembly. If the gear shaft is available (www.searspartsdirect.com) , then yeas, you would have to split the case all the way open to replace it. This is not an easy job. Most major repair shops would charge 4 or 5 hours of shop time for this repair. It generally requires complete dissassembly of the tiller to remove the transmission.

You did not give a model # for your tiller, so I am only giving you general solutions. Please look up the parts. Many times it is more cost effective to replace your tiller than it is to repair it. Remember that all of the other gear shafts are the same age as the one that broke and have been through the same stresses.

Good luck!

Each time i manually change gears it slips and then respond so i believe that my car transmission is not well. what should i do. this is the second time that my transmission fails

When your gears slips, it could be a few things. It could be a worn linkage, transaxle may be loose, shift link does not move freely, could be a worn shift fork, or a gear bearing retainer loose or broke. You could have dirt between the clutch cover and engine. I would check these first before you look at the transmission. Make sure your transmission fluid is level though. It may need changed with a new filter.

2004 kawasaki kxf250 its stuck in gear

More than likely you have a transmission issue. Could be a bent shifting fork, or a worn shift drum. It probably needs to be split, or opened up to determine.

Everything is fine with the bike except for 2nd gear, when i open the throttle all the way i start to sputter as it accelerates, all the other gears are fine

Sounds like transmission troubles. The bike is trying to jump out of second gear. At this point, at the very least you have a bent shift fork and rounded dogs on the transmission gear. The cases will have to be split to determine exactly what pieces need to be replaced.

Hello, I have a 1993 Caravan with a 5 speed manual transmission. The gear shifter often won't go into 1st, and sometimes not any gear. A tech at a tire store forced it, and broke the cable that runs just...

If one cable is broke it won't shift right noy need to repalce the cable and cable housing then adjust the cable so it shifts. With the cabe broke it is trying to shift into 2 gears at the same time.

Transmission slipping

Since the clutch pack is working, cable, etc, then it is not any of that. Kinda leaves shift linkage in the transmission and the 3 shift forks, bearing, gears and the like. All of these components require engine removal and the case split to repair. I would check the linkages prior to the transmission and their adjustment first. Hope this helps you with your scoot. Rick

Need to change shift fork,

Transmission are kinda tricky. Yes you'll have to take the t-case off. Transmissions won't just fall apart when you break them open. But first things first. What's it doing. And if you don't really know anything about transmissions, I would give it to a shop to rebuild. Won't cost very much.
