I am running Windows 7 64bit - Motorola SBG6580 router/modem - HP LaserJet Professional P1606dn - GPSU21. How did I get this to work.
1. Load Windows XP and Virtual Machine according to this web site: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/install-and-use-windows-xp-mode-in-windows-7
2. Load GPSU21 Driver software from within Windows XP.
3. Reboot modem and it should recognize the GPSU21.
4. Restart each computer after your primary computer recognizes the printer through the GPSU21.
5. Keep in mind that each machine will need to download and install the printer software. It will not auto install because your computers see: 1p_printserver20 (unless you give it another name) in any case the driver software for the printer is not loaded to the GPSU21 - but rather on each computer in the network.
Note 1: You will need to know the address of your modem across your network so you can assign a dedicated IP address to you GPSU21. (for example 192.168.1.1) Know the numbers of all network IP addresses and use one that is not assigned. Make sure your GPSU21 is assigned a permanent/dedicated IP address. You can get these through your modem/router browser link or through you individual computer CMD function (ipconfig /all)
Note 2. You may need to make some adjustments to your router (all are different)
Note 3. You may need to reset your GPSU21 to factory default. This will erase any IP address already assigned to it if you acquire it used. Those instructions can be easily found on the net.
Not compatible or not working well with windows 7?
Maybe, It doesn't work because the driver/application you installed is
for other versions of operating system. I am also using windows 7 like
you so don't you worry, You can still use your old installer/driver from
other versions of operating systems. Just remember that before
installing any program in a windows 7 Operating System Computer, Use
"troubleshoot compatibility". Right Click the Icon of your program
installer/application first, then choose "troubleshoot compatibility". This will
allow you to choose on what type operating system your program will run.
Just reply back if it still doesn't work.:D rate and vote for me:))
SOURCE: I recently loaded windows 7 and now I cannot print
Start > Devices & Printers > Add a Printer > Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer
> The printer I want isn't listed (unless it is!) > Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname
> Device Type = Autodetect / Hostname or IP address: 192.168.XXX.XXX (The 1260's IP assigned by
your router - make it a static IP beforehand) / Port name: [the autofill IP is fine] > Additional port
information required = Standard "Network Print Server (2 ports - USB)" > Select the driver for the printer
you want to use...
Once the install is complete go to the Devices and Printers screen and click on the new printer.
Click Customize your Printer, change the name if you prefer and then on the ports tab. Mine is
set to Protocol "Raw", Port Number 9100, Community Name "public". The only other thing I may be
doing differently is that I have set the printer to auto-show the print preview before printing.
Yes, its an additional click but it seemed to have made all the difference in my case. It also
gives you the chance to correct something like printing a second page with just a header URL, etc.
I realize that time is a luxury and not everyone has a lot of it, especially for trivial tasks
like addressing antiquated equipment compatibility issues after an upgrade, but I firmly believe
if you say can't enough, you WON'T. But for those who enjoy a challenge occasionally I hope this
points you in the right direction. Good luck
