Our deck keeps falling out of position when we hit a bump. The height lever pops out and drops down to the bottom. Any suggestions?

SOURCE: hower do you do the adjusting for height on the

The dial only sets the height or the total deck, it is more of a stop than an adjuster.

If it seems too low in the front, you can adjust it by tightening the nuts on the 2 bolts/pins that are attached to the deck and the frame.

First of all, though, check your tire pressures, 10 psi in the rear and 14 psi in the front. If front pressures are too low, this will make a huge difference in your cut. You want to adjust the bolts an equal amount to maintain your side to side level keeping in mind that it should have 1/4 to 1/2 " difference front to rear.

Make your adjustments on your driveway or garage floor so you have a flat level surface to go by.

If you make these adjustments and it still scalps, you will either have to set the deck to cut a bit higher or approach the high spots from a different angle or remember to lift the deck up a bit with the handle when you get to those areas

Hope this solves your problem

SOURCE: I have a Sears Craftsman

I would Remove the gas tank, that is only a couple bolts, and that way you don't throw off anything else. Yes that bolt is a pain to get to, but tank is easy removal. Let me know if this helped , thanks mike. On the good side , longer you don't have mower working, more time for fishing :)

SOURCE: 2010 Craftsman Lt 2000 deck height adjustment?

just bought a new craftsman riding mower. model lt1500. 17.5 hp with 42 inch deck. first time using I had the deck hight handle set on 6 the highest setting and still cuts grass to short, matter of fact it scalped the grass. anyway to set the deck higher. Its only 3 days old and still under warranty but the sears store is 20 miles away and I rented a trailer to go pick it up and hate to go rent another trailer to bring it back if its just a simple adjustment.

Hi Susan:
The deck height is controlled by a combination of linkages and is ultimately determined by the position of the deck height selection lever.
If the deck height is changing without moving the selection lever, one of the linkage connections must be disconnected, incorrectly connected, or damaged.
Review any work that was done on the machine immediately before the problem became apparent.
Chances are good that you will quickly resolve the problem.
Cheers.

How to fix cutting unit which falls down on one side

There is a star wheel on the back side of the unit this wheel raises and lowers deck to make level. There is a lock bolt that keeps it in place, they often loosen and the deck falls. Loosen lock bolt adjust deck to same height on both sides.

check for a lock pin that you have to move out of the way. push on the deck height control pedal and pull the lock lever out of the way. this is what keeps the deck up when travelling.

The accelerator pedal is not working properly. Especially when trying to go up hill. I have to keep pushing & letting go, pushing & letting go. even when it starts to move. Also, the right blade...

Hello,

I am guessing that this was posted in wrong category.

You mention that you have to keep pushing / letting go of the accelerator. Is the engine RPM changing, or is the tractor surging, when you do this? What happens if you keep a steady pressure on the pedal? Isn't the throttle control via a lever on the panel?

Your uneven blade height can be caused by a multitude of issues.
1) If the spindles were changed, the wrong spindle may have been used on one side or the other.
2) The wrong blade adapter has been used on one of the spindles.
3) Mower deck has been bent
4) Mower deck is binding. Try raising it all the way up, and lowering all the way down. See if the uneven cut changes at both levels (all up or all down).
5) Blade is bent on one side, though this would usually cause such a ruckus and vibration it would be quite noticeable.
6) Belt is slipping. Yes, sounds strange, but if blade speed changes significantly, then the position where the grass is actually cut changes because the grass can "lean over" more.
7) Using a mulching attachment in tall grass can cause 1 blade to clog, and the cut grass that is swirling bends over other grass that needs to be cut.
8) Mower deck support bracket has been bent
9) Mower deck wheel has a bad bearing, and doesn't support the deck at same height as other side.
10) Mower deck is cracked / bent at a support location
11) You have lost a retaining pin at a support bracket and the bracket is loose.
12) A spindle's bearings are worn out, and the spindle is "jumping" as it turns.

If the blades are directly beside each other where they blades will overlap, it is normal for a small amount of height difference to occur. But, most decks have off set blades, one slightly in front of the other.

you should be able to raise the deck all the way, and pull the tractor's front wheels up onto something (landscape timber?) to get more access, then measure blade height in relation to bottom of the deck. If different, then you are looking at wrong blade / adapter or a spindle issue. If the blades are the same height, then you are likely looking at a deck support issue / binding in linkage.

Even on the highest setting, it still cuts too low. can i adjust it to cut higher?

When you put it in the highest setting can you see the deck actually moving in an upward direction? If not the linkage might be broken or damaged. When you raise the deck up or down with the lever it should move, a deck setting in the full up position is a pretty high setting you have to have some long grass to be cutting in the full up position and still think its to short. You might be able to reposition the deck, if when you look under the unit you see a bracket that controls the deck height setting that has a number of holes in it(maybe even 2 brackets), there should be a pin(s) in one of the holes this could be set in a low position and therefore you can change position to change height of deck.

How to adjust height on tractor mower model no. 917.270812? I turn the adjustment knob and it will lock in only on the highest and lowest heights and nowhere in between.

You need to turn that knob to its highest point with the deck height lever to its highest setting. Now turn that knob counter clockwise a few turns and let the deck lever all the way down. That knob will stop the lever part way down. If it mowes to high rase that deck lever again and turn that knob counter clockwise some more and let that deck lever down again. Repete till you have the correct cutting height. If you were cutting to low turn the knob clockwise insted of counter clockwise in the instruction above. The knob only set the stop of the deck lever. Once set the deck lever lifts the deck up and holds it but when you let that lever down it returns to its mowing set height.
