My psp 2001 digital steam press just burst into flames. I have not used it extensively and although it is not new it should not have burst into flames.

Common problem if you have the temperature or steam setting set too low (not enough heat/steam to vaporize water droplets or the unit is not up to full temp. I would have a clean towel alongside the iron to give a burst of steam prior to your first press...
if no steam at all, there is most likely a small port where some particles have clogged...fill it with vinegar and water (50/50) and allow to soak 24 hrs, then reheat then shake vigorously to drain then rinse then retry
