Galaxy dx-66v its hard to explain but the sound will start to like buzzing or humming frequency counter starts jumping around cant hear people talking sometimes turning it off then on again will fix it for awhile and i think i,ve narrowed it down to a area on the circuit board behind the channel selector board if you mash around on the solder spots there it will come back i,ve resoldered about everything i can think of around there any ideas???

set your mode for AM with frequency counter reading 26.965 mhz on band E. ( channel 1 ) Now you have to adjust VR 1 for 26.965 mhz if its not reading it already . Now set the counter and the radio to 27.405 mhz ( channel 40 ) check for 27.405 mhz . If its off by .003 to .005 thats really nothing but if its off by .3 to .5 thats when it really off frequency .
the freq display can be different from the channel selector display. the crystal in the freqcounter maybe going out or just got out of alignment.... check it with a know accurate frequency counter to determine if its on fequency or not. 000 3174269649
When some one at a shop says " I don't have the time to look at it." It really means, I haven't the slightest idea even were to begin to try and fix that radio, because I I am not really a tech, and I just sell Peak and Tunes, & snake oil.
I can't really say without looking at the radio and tracing down things, but there is sometimes a problem with a cap in the frequency counter circuit, that causes a buzzing sound.
As for the low modulation, there are too many things that could cause this. It really needs a tech, and your gonna end up paying to have it fixed. I would just call galaxy and talk to a tech, and most likely send it in.
You can look at the caps and look for ones that look damaged, or burnt. Also look for any components leads shorting on other components. If you find something that looks burnt or busted, if you have soldering skills, you can replace it with the same part.
You may solve some of the problems that way. That's the first thing you look at when working on a radio with a problem, the second is looking on the trace side of the board for cold solder joints.
