My phone is requesting a puk code but i don't want to call At&t to ask for it because im afraid they';; charge me for it. is there any possible way i can get my puk code without contacting customer service?

Not really that's depends on which this option can solve your problem. Option 1, try to use your PUK code to unlock samsung M8800 security password, just enter any password until your phone request your puk code. Puk code can you get from your sim card bundle or ask to your network provider, don't worry it's still not take any charge. If option 1 fail, try to unlock samsung security code by reflashing your phone to nearly local mobile phone repair shop and it will take you some cost but not to costly arround 1/10 of your phone price.
