If your mobile phone is lost or stolen you can inform your cell phone provider with your IMEI number. Your cell phone provider can then put the serial number on a shared database. This list stops this particular phone from registering on any network and will be useless for anyone even if the mobile phone's SIM card is changed. Your best bet is to ring your cell phone and hope the person who answers your cell phone will return your phone to you. Otherwise I suggest you contact your cell phone provider ASAP. No, you can not track your phone with any such gismo, its science fiction. You often do see something like it in TV.
What you can do with the Imei number is to call the service provider and report it stolen. This will render the phone unusable in the network, you can also report it to the police? i'm not sure how that goes.
While you probably won't get your phone back, you can make it as hard as possible to make any use of by calling the service provider with the imei and reporting it stolen, hopefully they will put it on a blocked list and it can't be used in any network after that.
But if you just lost the phone in your appartment or similar, then this would not be a good idea, just find the phone.
Please let me know if you require further assistance or if you have any questions. Thanks, Ekse

Please contact your service provider. He is the only authority to block your number...Please do it at the earliest so that some one may not misuse it...
If anybody can block your number then there is no meaning in it.So contact your service provider through his customer care department...
it happerns when a phone is reported stolen, you will need to get its 'IMEI' number changed, it will cost £5 at local phone shop, or do it yourself (i can do it if i had the phone), simply install NVEDITOR and connect it to USB
You need to contact your cell phone carrier (verizon, cingular ect) and tell them your phone was stolen, and give them the IMEI number. They will send a signal over the network locking the phone.
Hope this helps, thank you for stopping by Fixya! Feel free to leave a positive rating if this solution answered your question.
