I assume that you have downloaded Yahoo messenger and you have login account.
In order to chat to an individual you need to know the persons yahoo id. If you know it then go to CONTACTS/ADD A CONTACT.
By doing so, an invitation will be sent to the person and once the person is online and agrees to let you add him, then you can chat with him.

On the other hand, you can chat in 'Room'. This can be done by clicking MESSENGER/YAHOO! CHAT/JOIN A ROOM. You just need to select a desired room.

sign in your Yahoo Messenger. Then go to MESSENGER, then YAHOO! CHAT, then JOIN ROOM
MESSENGER is located at the upper portion beside the CONTACTS. i hope this helps. goodluck!

First you install yahoo messenger in your pc..download from internet -
-If you have yahoo ID then log in from yahoo messenger
-Add friends email ID's in your yahoo messenger..- Click on -Contact - Add a Contact -fillup email ID. & add email ID.

Yahoo messenger, has been shutting down..when attempting to chat.
can you try installing a different version of yahoo messenger? preferably the latest version. I dont think theres a virus in it but i think there are some corrupted files on your yahoo messenger that made it to shut down improperly.

Your Yahoo Messenger software may be corrupted. If you're on a Windows PC, go to Control Panel and select Add/Remove programs. Scroll to Yahoo Messenger and remove it. Go back to your Yahoo account and download Yahoo Messenger again.
