Hi Marc-

I actually received an e-mail about this two weeks ago. Since employees in my agency are provided Blackberrys, this tends to happen quite often and IT got tired of the same question.

Grab a QTip and some rubbing alcohol. Make sure you only get the Qtip moist and swab the qtip over the ball.

Since you use the trackball quite often on a Blackberry, some gunk from your fingers can build up and cause it to stick.

Hope this helps!

Track ball is stuck

If the trackball is stuck, you can turn the mouse upside down and push the trackball into the tabletop and roll it around. This will help to clean it off. With the Mighty Mouse this is a common problem.

My black berry baal stucking and not working...can suggest the sollution

I remembered an article some months ago which mentioned the coloring the of the Pearl's trackball by coloring the LED beneath the trackball. Finally I realized that removing the pearl's cover would the best way to get access to its sensor and clean it. By the way, this should work for all BlackBerry devices that carry a trackball around like BlackBerry Pearl, Curve, 8800, 8820 and 8830.
The silver ring which covers the trackball can easily be removed if you use a small screwdriver to lift it at the outer side of the ring. Be careful here! Like you should be during the whole process as all parts have very small plastic nipple which can break very easy. When the silver plastic ring is removed you will see the inner trackball component which can be removed completely. Before doing this you should carefully remove the silver metal ring that holds the trackball component in its position. The trackball component itself can also be carved. For every direction the ball can roll to you'll find a sensor wheel. Those wheels are mostly carrying some gunk you should clean them from. Once this is done put everything back together to the place the pieces came from and secure the trackball with the silver plastic ring you removed in the first step. Your BlackBerry's trackball should be back working now.

The ball wont roll on my blackberry. Help!

The trackball is easily removed for cleaning by just pulling the trim ring around the trackball off with your fingernail. Remove the trackball and clean with alcohol. Reverse the process to clean.

Blackberry 8830 trackball gets stuck and not move to left

The trackball in any BlackBerry is the weakest part of the device. Gunk and lint get stuck under the trackball and will gum it up. You can use a small screwdriver or sewing needle to pop the chrome retainer out and then remove the entire trackball assembly. You can take the entire thing apart but I would not suggest it unless you've got the skills to put it back together. Soaking the assembly in alcohol might do the trick.

My blackberry world edition's trackball suddenly started selecting things as if I pressed the trackball even though I haven't. If I open email it clicks the links in it as I scroll past and reply pops up...

You might have one of three things wrong with your blackberry 1. something is stuck down there like a peice of plastic causing the button to seem like its being pressed all the time or 2. there could be water damage in there thats if you bring your phone into the bathroom with you while taking showers humidity is like cancer to phones it might not show up right away but it can happen 3. someone might of pushed the trackball so hard that it dented the button in this case i would take it in to get repaired. If it is one of the other two it should be an easy fix you can check for either one of these problems underneath the trackball by removing the ring that is around the trackball you can do this by carefully prying around it off then you should be able to drop the trackball itself right out of the phone aswell as any thing stuck in there or if there is water damage or any water down there I suggest you turn the phone off as soon as possible to prevent any further damage then I would just leave the phone in a nice dry place to get rid of the water then the trackball should work again same thing goes for removing anything that might be stuck down there after that is all done with you should be able to reassemble it remember the ring around the trackball only goes in one way so do force it or you risk breaking it.

Cheers,
Kyle

Sidekick 2008 trackball

More than likely, the trackball on your Sidekick 2008 is really dirty.Overtime, dirt and grime gets in between the ball and the sensors.

It is really easy to clean it, you will need q-tips and IPA alcohol. No dis assembly is usually needed!

Check out the Video at the following link to see how the trackball cleaning on the Sidekick 2008 is done

Blackberry 8830 wont track down - trackball stuck

This is usually caused by the trackball getting dirty.

Use a q-tip dipped in IPA and clean it. Roll the trackball around and swab the q-tip around to clean.

If cleaning fails then you will need to replace the Blackberry trackball.

Check the following link on instructions on how to do that.

Trackball

I just had this happen to me. I blew air (from an air can used to clean keyboards, etc) into the trackball and it started working fine. It seemed there was dust or something stuck inside. Good Luck!

Kid trackball

A lot of trackball controlls made by Microsoft and Logitech use a optical system. Once the control on the screen doesn't move anymore, you simply remove the ball and clean the optics out of it.

If there is a way that you can remove the ball out of the control, all you have to do is clean the rollers underneath the wheel. After some time they do build up just like a friction mouse does. All it takes is some Qtips and a water alchohol solution.

I would hope for a kid trackball they made that a feature.
