Ethernet Controller I am working on a Dell Dimension 3000.  It experienced some major problems from viruses that forced me to reinstall the operating system.  I did not have the original recovery disk (XP Home) that came with the system, so I borrowed a disk from a friend who has XP Pro.  The operating system installed with absolutely no problems, expect for some missing drivers. Two of the more notable drivers that I need are the Ethernet Controller (highly important) and the VGA driver.  I am currently using a different friends laptop until I get the desktop working. Also, I searched the Dell website for the ethernet driver and found nothing and I no longer have the driver disk to reinstall all the drivers. Thanks for any help.

I had to reinstall XP like 6 months ago, on a dimensions 3000. just reinstall the drivers. here i think this is all of the drivers.
just start "Dell Driver Reset Tool.EXE"
and run "Sownd driver for 3000.EXE"
driver for vga "Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller.exe"

and the Ethernet driver "Intel PRO100 VE Network Connection.exe"
Click Here for a zip of all the drivers.

Computer freezes after it boots up

There are couple of reasons for this problem: Virus, corrupted Operating system (try to reinstall OS), memory problem (try to install another good memory module), and the worst of all, defective motherboard/processor. Good luck

Ethernet Controller is missing

You are unable to use the Ethernet, VGA etc. because you have not installed the drivers for the same.

You might have received a Drivers CD(it will read "Drivers and Utilities") which will be in blue color, when you got the computer from Dell.
In case if you haven't received it you can contact Dell on 1-800-624-9897 and request for a Driver CD. I guess this Dimension model is @ End of Life (I mean no more produced by dell) you might have to download the drivers from Dell's support site (www.support.dell.com) you will have to get it downloaded on a different computer and copy on a CD or a Flash drive.

Once you got all the drivers. First extract them in a separate folder

Go to Device manager
Right click on the Ethernet controller (where you see a yellow exclamation)
Click update drivers
Show the path where you have the driver files

Go to the device manager and scroll down to your ethernet controller. highlight the device, right click and uninstall it but keep the drivers. Turn off the computer completely...pull the plug out of the back and wait 10 seconds and plug back in. wait another 30 seconds and reboot. Let windows find the hardware and reinstall the drivers. If windows asks to search windows update, allow it to do so and then after it stabilizes see if you can open a browser window.
