I have a Hunter Carefree Humidifier Plus. When I turn the switch on, the motor buzzes but the fan blade will not turn. I have already tried taking the fan cover off and trying to get the blade to turn by manually starting it, but this is not working. Any suggestions?

We were having the same problem. Here is how I fixed it but its hard to explain...
I took the main white part off and laid it side ways on a table looking inside there is a tube that goes from the top towards the main fan then connects to a plastic part that is shaped like a "p" In the middle part of the "p" you an see I tiny little gear. I manually turned the gear with a paper clip a few times and it worked. I had no idea what I was doing but I was determined!!!

Thank you so much! You are a genius! There was a lot of mineral build up in with the gear. When I turned the gear with a paper clip, it loosened the deposits and the gear was set free!

I haven't used my humidifier for the past two years. Dug it out of the basement and it wouldn't work. I was going to purchase a new one but - everything is out of stock. So glad I found this - it worked! Such an easy fix. Hopefully, it gets me through the winter. Thank you so much!

I brought this model out for its third winter. I cleaned it as usual, plugged it in and nothing. I could hear that juice was making contact but the fan wasn't working. I thought it was ready for the curb until I read your easy fix. I rotated that stiff gear for a few minutes and plugged it in. To my amazement it came right on. Thanks for sharing. I would have never thought to look there.

I've gone through 3 of these with the same problem. Seems like a design issue. If within a year of purchase, contact hunter and they will send you a new one and only ask you to send them the cord and label off your old one. Expect the replacement to last about a year depending on how hard your water is.

I have the same unit and after disassembly it appears that the impeller that pumps the water up to the filter has frozen due to deposits. Soaked the impeller but that did not help. Appearantly you can't buy a replacement pump. and that appears to be planned obsolence to help the bottom line at our cost

Hunter carefree humidifiers use a reusable and washable wick this method of humidifying does not produce a fine mist like many centrifugal (cool misting)humidifiers. The fact that it is producing cold air seems to indicate it is working. However it would not hurt to check the water intake for blockages it also a good idea to run these models on high for several mins when starting this ensures that water is being pumped up.

Water accumulation in tray under humidifier

what kind of humidifier? Are you getting condensation? Look at the windows in the room with the humidifier, if they are wet with condensation, then you have too much water in the air, also if it's cold enough the water can sometimes just fall instead of being absorbed 100% into the air...

How do I clean Hunter Humidifier #33222 ?

From The Hunter 3322 manual.
1. Turn the humidifier ‘OFF’ and unplug the unit.
2. Lift the main housing and remove the water dispersion tray and the PermaWick™ Filters. The motor is attached to the main housing. Do not place the motor near water. Do not use a wet towel on the motor or motor housing as electrical shock may occur.
3. The PermaWick™ Filter should be cleaned in a vinegar and water solution to remove any mineral buildup. Place in a solution of one (1) gallon of water and eight (8) ounces of undiluted white vinegar. Allow the filter to soak for 20 minutes.
4. After soaking, rinse it several times with clean water. Place the PermaWick™ Filter in a location where it can drip dry while you clean the other parts of your humidifier.
5. Remove the water tank from the base and empty any water that is left in the tank. Soak the base in a mixture of one (1) gallon of water and eight (8) ounces of vinegar for 20 minutes.
6. After soaking, wipe the base with a soft cloth or sponge to remove any mineral build up. Rinse with clean water several times. If you are planning on storing the humidifier, be sure the base is completely dry.
7. Fill the water tank with one (1) gallon of water and eight ounces of undiluted white vinegar. Replace the tank cap and shake the tank vigorously until all interior surfaces of the tank have been exposed to the water/vinegar mixture.
8. Empty the tank of the water/vinegar mixture. Rinse it several times with clean water and then replace the tank cap. If you are planning on storing the humidifier, dry it inside and out, leaving the cap off to allow the tank to completely dry. Continue to clean the other parts of your humidifier.
9. Remove the water diffuser cap by squeezing the two tabs as shown in Figure 3. Rinse the cap in clean water to remove any debris. If the cap contains hard water residue, soak it in a mixture of one (1) quart of water and two (2) ounces of vinegar for 20 minutes. 41553-01 01/03/2008 6 © 2008 Hunter Fan Company
Rinse well and reinstall the water diffuser cap. Do not expose motor or other electrical components to water.
10. Wipe the surfaces of the main housing with a soft cloth.
11. Once all the parts are clean, reassemble the humidifier, and follow the USING YOURHUMIDIFIERto continue use. If you are storing the humidifier, make sure the parts are completely dry, reassemble, and store in a dry location

Makes a dripping water sound continously

Most likely you do not have the humidifier assembled properly. Mine did that and I found out that not all of the parts were fully in their final position.

Problem: My water always has nasty particles floating in the water and the inside of the humidifier has a snot-like substance on the inside. The humidifier is supposed to be care-free for life time. What's the deal?
