I have Nokia 6500 slide and suddenly it started to freeze without apparent reason. I need to pull out battery and wait for couple of minutes and then it can be turn on. However, after a while it freezes again. I upgraded the software but it didn't helped.

Switch off the phone.

Remove the battery for 30 minutes.

Reinsert the battery and switch on the phone.

Enter the default code 12345.

Your phone will be unlocked

your phones software is corrupted and to reprogram to fix it..an expert mobile repairman will help you...but you must pick a trusted one who have knowledge and expert in using software gadget..
he must be having this gadget ,mx key dongle or cyclone box because this gadget can save all your data and can reprogram your phone without losing a single bytes..

its either a battery or software problem.

Test the phone with another battery. And if its not a battery problem, then it should be a software problem. Maybe you should flash the phone.

its a software problem. I think the software files are corrupt and that's why the phone cannot boot.

The phone needs to be reformatted for it to work properly again. The process is called Flashing.

That's the only way your phone could be revived.

You must have updated the firmware yourself. Go to Nokia Care and get it done there. When they do it, the complete firmware is removed and reinstalled. When you do it only the new files are changed.
