My Hamilton Beach Bl-1-3 water cooler isn't cooling the water. I have taken it apart and checked all the lines and also looking at the diffuser and see nothing obvious wrong or broken. I hear the compressor kick on and all LED lights are on and normal. It has hot water on the hot side and room temp water is fine it's just the cold isn't coming out cold at all it just comes out warm. I have turned it of for 24 hrs and then restarted and you hear the compressor kick on but it never gets cold. ANY idea what I should check next
You are my 40,000 question that I have answered! You don't get a prize, but I think that is pretty neat Paul :>D I have been here a long time.
The manual only says that you have to make sure that cooling is switched on (Page 12). The unit has a 1 year warranty. If it out of warranty, you just need to pick it up and take it to a refrigeration engineer. It may need topping up with refrigerant gas.

When empty of water remove the back panel and the cooling fins are most likely covered with an inch of dirt! Find an air compressor and blow out the dirt. It worked on mine!
Check to see if the dispenser has an integral water filter. If yes, replace it to improve the taste of the water. If no, then unplug and remove the top panel and shut off the water supply line to the unit.
You'll want to drain the cooling tank and clean it with some white vinegar to remove any mineral deposits that could be affecting the taste of the water. You'll want to lightly scrub the inside of the chilling/cooling tank with a mixture of at least 2/3 white vinegar and warm water to help dissolve any residue in the tank.
After you've gotten it as clean as possible, turn on the water supply line and flush the tank by filling a pitcher from the cold water dispenser. Do this for at least 2-3 gallons of water to completely clear out the vinegar mixture.
You'll also want to remove and sanitize the dispenser valves on the front of the unit, as there could be some gunk inside the spout that is adding to the foul taste and odor.
I would also suggest you install an inline charcoal water filter to the supply line serving this cooler, as that will only help improve the taste and clarity of your drinking water.
You should be able to adjust the temp of the cold water with a thermostat controler located inside the cabinent. You might want to contat Hamilton Beach to obtain an owner's manual for your unit to get more detailed information about use and operation recommendations.
Hope you found this info very helpful and best regards!
To resolve this problem, unplug the dispenser and let it sit for about 24 hours. I had this problem happen to me and I took the unit apart to find out the cause. I discovered that the the water cooling mechanism developed a big chunk of ice inside of it and it basically blocked the flow water. Allowing that ice to melt should resolve this problem. It did for us.
Sounds like the fans have stoped turning for the cooling system. If you cannot hear the fans turn on when you flip the COOL switch this is your problem. Pick the fans up at a computer parts store like Frys. Any other part failure on this unit other than a loose wire is not worth repairing. A little oil inside the motor and several revolutions later might get some relief until a new motor is installed.
