I dub 16:9 from HDD to DVD-R. Playback OK on this player. On other player picture is 4:3 distorted aspect. Fix?

After finalizing, DVD-R will not play back on any other DVD player with proper aspect ratio. Becomes 4:3 with vertical stretch. Plays OK on original player.

My other players are capable; they include 2 Oppo's and a Panasonic and Sony Blu-ray. So the incompatibilty seems to be originating with the Panasonic recorder. I had a similar problem with an older Phillips recorder and seemed to correct it by making an HDMI adjustment when recording the original program. I can't find that option on the Panasonic. This reminds me to try playback on that older (related) Phillipps to see if genes play a role. At least that would let me play back in another room.

I tried to dub old vcr home movies to a dvd and I accomplished that but when I tried to play dvds on my computer or other player the dvd could not be read. What do I do?

Did you finalize the disc? Make sure that you left some space on the disc after dubbing the movies. The finalization adds data onto the disc.

To finalize, put the disc back in recorder. Press Setup on the remote. Use the up/down arrow keys to highlight Disc Edit and press OK. Highlight the Finalize option and press OK. Select Yes and press OK. Wait for the procedure to finish.

In the future when you record, you may want to use the Auto-Finalize option. For more information, look at the manual. The finalize and auto-finalize steps start at page 44. The manual is available here: http://download.p4c.philips.com/files/z/zv427mg9_f7/zv427mg9_f7_dfu_aen.pdf .

If you did finalize the disc, then check that your computer has DVD-playing software. Starting with Windows 8, Microsoft stopped offering the Windows Media Center by default. You could purchase a DVD playback app from the Microsoft store. Alternatively, there are third-party DVD playback programs. VLC is free, https://www.videolan.org/ . Others, including Cyberlink PowerDVD, cost money.

Some DVD players do not read all discs. Some only read DVD-R (DVD-RW) even after the disc is finalized.

I hope this helps.

How can I get full screen image without distortion on tv viewing? I only get 4:3, zoom, full and justified. Full looks stretched horizontally with tv, looks ok with dvd.

Hello
Most of the telivision transmissions are comes at an aspect ratio of 4:3. Wide aspect ratio is 16:9. If you try to see a picture with aspect ratio 4:3 to wide 16:9, it will look like stretched. it is not the fault of the tv. Most DVD recording have the aspect ratio of 16:9 [Wide]. This aspect ratio will be displayed correctly when your tv is also set to wide mode. If you select normal mode at this condition, the picture will be displayed elongated. Ok Your Tv has no probelm.

DVD - Video Finalization rejection

1. The message can appear if the disc has already been finalised.

2. The disc may be faulty.

3. Try copying again from HDD to another disc. Performing a copy and finalise together by using 'DVD Video Creation' from the Edit menu can be more successful than doing each step separately.

4. When you transferred from your video camera, did you use firewire? If so, did you record at the maximum (default) bitrate of 14+ ? If so, you must copy (rate conversion) to the DVD at a maximum bitrate of 9.2, which is the maximum for the DVD playback standard.

LG RH265 - Problem when trying to register blank disk/dubbing

The DVD needs to initialise the disk first. Come out of the HDD dubbing menu and press DVD on the remote. The blank recordable disk should be recognised and you should see Initialise disk? on the screen. Press Start and hey presto, you can now dub from the HDD Movie dubbing menu (as per the manual instructions).

Pixilation when playback of dubbed and homemade DVDs

As mentioned on the Jan12 e-mailed Panasonic - surprise, no response! However on Panasonic's web site drill down to firmware upgrades for DVD machines. There is an upgrade available for the E50P. Straight forward fix, download to computer, expand it and copy to a CD-R. Put CD-R into E50 and recorder will check and update firmware. I did this on the 13th and have recorded two commercial free movies and both have played back perfectly after finalization. Time will tell. Hope this helps. Golferdon
