If I understand you correctly, when you leave the handset in the cradle and press a line, you can hear the dial tone. But, if you lift the handset and then select a line you don't hear anything through the headset. If this is correct, I suspect the handset is damaged, the cord is damaged, or if you're lucky, the clips may not be plugged all the way in on both sides. If you have another phone that is the same, you can switch handsets to test this theory.
You need the specific battery pack: 5-2814 for the handset. This is a 850 mAh Nickel Metal hydride battery.
When I see a cordless phone that doesn't ring, the first thing I recommend checking is the phone jack and line itself with a second phone. I prefer to use a corded handset with a new phone cord to check for dial tone. If no dial tone at the jack, check for dial tone at the service entry box. If you have no dial tone at the service box, contact your provider. If it's only a problem at the jack, you will need to check your inside wiring.
To check the base, try a new cable (RJ-11) (double check the power as well).
To check the handset, first make sure the handset is fully charged (16 hours) and that the battery is fully installed. Does the handset beep when the Talk button is pressed? Next check that the handset ringer software is on. With the phone off (not in the talk mode), press the Mute/menu OK button. Use the Caller ID/volume (up/down) buttons to get to the Handset setup menu. Press the Mute/Menu OK button to access the menu. Use these buttons to check the Ringer Volume (should be on) and Ringer Tone. Press Mute/Menu OK to save the settings at each sub-menu. Check that the Do Not Disturb function is not on - this toggles with the Do Not Disturb button and should be noted on the handset screen when on.
If you have multiple extensions on the phone line, try unplugging some of them.
On the base, open the menu and select Register Handset. The display should say Handset Registering. On the handset you want to register, press and hold # until the handset display says Handset Registering (about 2 seconds). 1. 2. DSL filterTelephone cordTelephone wall jack 45 In about 30 seconds, the handset display should say Registration Complete. Press Talk/fl ash and make sure you get a dial tone. If... Try... you don't hear a dial tone the display says Registration Failed -- Making sure the handset is fully charged, then start over at step 1.
if you can get dial tone with another phone, look into manual for any instructions, usually a toll free number for help. ( BEST ) otherwise take phone back for exchange. may be problem in the board.
After waiting for over 24 hrs for an answer from FixYa and then they wanted $10.00 and trying to fix it myself, I gave up. Threw all that c$$p into a box, took it back to the store and got my money back. It just wasn't worth the time and aggravation.
I
was having the same problem with the same model phone, and fixed the problem by rebooting the phone – unplugging the
AC and phone cord from the base station and plugging both back it, then removing and replacing
the handset to regenerate the security code.
I have the problem. I think it is because the battery i have in it was a Ni-MH and it should be a Ni-Cd. I am now looking for the right baterry Good luck Frank [email protected]
