The lamps you need to watch the lamps. they don't lie.

the operators guide tells you what the lights mean, lost that.?
2 lamps are security or IMMOBILIZers have a lamp

IMMO kills engine, if car is tired to start. with wrong key. (and or fob)
security is theft alarm. and some cut spark others cut fuel other cut
some even cut cranking,

no matter the lamps are FIRST> never last. never replace parts until you know what the lamps mean.

Passlock: System must detect proper R-code within ignition lock (or ignition switch) in order to start engine. Does NOT have chip in key.
look at the lamp, and do not dis believe it,

Your car is equipped with a system called PASSKEY standard on all GM cars and light trucks, try the following procedure to reset the system, the battery being dead will trigger the system.
PASSKEY LOCKOUT RESET GM CARS 1999 UP
1) Put the key in the ignition and turn to the "ON" position. Leave it that way for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes turn the key and take it out. Repeat this process (2) more times (3 times, 30 minutes total) This should reset the passlock system to recognize your key.

this is easy fix i had same thing happen when you start your car and it dies don't touch your key for no less than 11 min then turn it to off for no less than 30 sec the book says you might have to repeat this 4 times it worked the first time for me

First, obviously, put gas back in the tank.
Check the fuel pump fuse, (20 amp yellow fuse in the lower left corner of the group). If that is not blown, turn the key on and pound hard on the bottom of the fuel tank. The fuel lubricates the fuel pump, once it runs dry, the pump can lock up. Once the pump is immersed in fuel again, a sharp jolt will unstick it and let it pump up to pressure again. If it locks up for too long, the pump will burn out and need replaced.
We found this out by accident, got mad and pounded on the bottom of the tank and the pump jumped to life.

Yes you have a problem with the theft system. Have you tried a different key? It has a transponder system.
SOURCE: 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix
This vehicle is equipped with PASS-Key III (Personalized Automotive Security System) theft-deterrent system; this is a passive theft-deterrent system. This means nothing special needs to be done to arm or disarm the system.
It works when the key is inserted or removed from the ignition. PASS-Key III uses a transponder in the ignition key that matches a decoder in the vehicle.
Disarming with the Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter:
The alarm system will disarm when the remote keyless entry transmitter is used to unlock the doors. The red light will go out to show that the system is disarmed.
Disarming with Your Key:
The alarm system will disarm when the key is used to unlock the doors. The red light will stop flashing when the system is disarmed. If you would like the key to disarm the alarm system, see "Personal Programming Mode Screens" under DIC Controls and Displays (Base Level DIC) on page 3-52 or DIC Controls and Displays (Uplevel DIC with Trip Computer) on page 3-60 for more information of your Owners Manual.
When trying to start the vehicle, if the engine does not start and the STARTING DISABLED DUE TO THEFT SYSTEM warning message on the Driver Information Center (DIC) comes on, the key may have a damaged transponder. Turn the ignition off and try again.
If the engine still does not start, and the key appears to be undamaged, try another ignition key. At this time, you may also want to check the fuse. See Fuses and Circuit Breakers on page 5-112. If the engine still does not start with the other key, the vehicle needs service. If the vehicle does start, the first key may be faulty. See your dealer who can service the PASS-Key® III to have a new key made.
Hope this helps.

Hi Richard Thomas, I want to help you with your problem, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? Is your security warning light on, or could this possibly be a different problem?
it was on then cut off then little while later it just died I thought it was the fuel pump but it didn't act like it runned out of gas it didn't spit or sputter now it will crank bit won't start
Check the security light on the dashboard! If it is on, remove excess weight from the car's keychain (anything other than the trunk/door keys and remote fob or ID tag). Clean the black oval spots on the ignition key using rubbing alcohol to take off skin oils or other contaminants. Cut an 8" strip of stiff white paper with a matte finish to about the same width as the key, then fold it in half to 4". Dip the fold end in rubbing alcohol, then slide it into the lock to swab off the contacts that touch the security component on the key. (I'm hesitant to use spray contact cleaner; it might wash the lubricant out of the mechanical part of the lock.) If it still doesn't start, the contact or its wiring may be broken. There is a way to bypass that, but I don't want to help any car thieves who may be reading this.

If the security light is NOT on and the Check Engine light is, you'll need to get a readout from the engine computer.
