When we have the source on DVD we are not receiving a TV signal through the DVD recorder. We get a sign saying no signal. When we put the source as TV we get a signal and a clear picture therefore we cannot record programs or watch TV through the DVD recorder. How can this be fixed?
If you "rewired" exactly as your previous recorder the problem may be technology. If your old recorder was initially bought for analog TV, the new digital recorder will not work with the same setup. This is what happened to me. I had to get a TV person in who re-wired everything to suit a digital tv setup. Main difference is now the recorder is hooked up via a HDMI cable. That is most likely your problem. Apparently the new recorders dont need a strong signal like analog and that is why you get that message. Either play with the setup or get an "expert" in to save on frustration.
Testimonial: "We have meanwhile tackled the problem by retuning. We originally had to retune the TV due to changes that had been made by one of our channels but had not retuned the recorder. Now after retuning the recorder all is good again. We didn't think the recorder had to be retuned but obviously it did. Thankyou for your assistance Alan and chelie. I appreciate it."
Firstly you must have a good connection from your antennae to the dvd recorder, secondly a good connection between recorder and tv
via scart lead or hdmi. Check these out before you do anything else.
Testimonial: "Unfortunately we haven't solved the problem. Checked connections as advised. Still get the "no signal" message from the recorder. I think the antenna must be OK as we can watch the TV."

Hi,
It sounds as if the actual T/V channel is out of tune.
I,d suggest powering the player On.
Then using channel 8-12 on the T/V to Scan for its frequency.
When you,ve located it to the Player.
Lock the channel, then use the DVD on Channel 8-12.

p.s also check the output from DVD To T/V lead has,nt come loose.

I know this is very late to reply, but here it goes anyway. The groaning sound if from the DVD disc slipping on the drive spindle. There is probably a buildup of particles on the rubber surface of the spindle, probably from the DVDs themselves. Remove the metal cover from the unit. Then remove the 4 screws from the top of the black plastic drive and lift off the top. Locate the drive spindle in the middle of the drive and carefully wipe the rubber ring surface on the top surface of the spindle. Use a clean piece of cotton dampened with alcohol. Then install the drive top panel and metal unit cover. You wioll need to repeat this periodically whenever the groaning symptom reappears.

Is your recorder hooked up to the new convert box for digital antenna reception?
I am currently researching the convert boxes for my dvd recorder. I found that some dvd recorders already have digital converter boxes already installed. This might be the case for you.
SOURCE: Record a digital channel while watching and analog channel
Take a red, white, and yellow AV cable and plug it from the AV out of the cable box to the red, white, and yellow In of the dvd recorder (change cable box to the channel you want to record). Then change your TV to the channel you want to view.
Have fun!
