ABS disabled Hi, I have a 2000 VW Beetle and my ABS light comes on with beeping sounds - I used the diagnostics equipment to find what the fault was and no fault came up for the ABS system. I got a mechanic to check my wheel sensors they are fine. I took the ABS module out to get tested and found nothing wrong with it. My vehicle runs brilliantly there is no problems with the breaks. Can I disable the ABS System to get rid of the beeping?

Abs dont beep. alarm does. you will need to check this. abs alarm and ecu and immobiliser etc are linked. I.e locked to you make and model and serial code. alarm can beep and knock out one of the units. sometimes if this fault happens it can be a simple problem like the external alarm unit has its own power but is charged from the main battery. these can go wrong, will beep. you can disconnect this part of the alarm. there is the back up alarm part. I would check this.

Testimonial: "Thank you for your reply Russ - How can I test or reset the external alarm unit and where can it be found on the car? I have just recently purchase a new battery to see if that was the cause of the ABS warning light and alarm beeping off but this has not solved anything I notice the battery would be flat after a day or two, I'm not sure if this is due the car not being in use and just sitting there or it's something depleting the battery."

there is 2 ways to fix this. one is the door switch on driver side other is you need to take the facia off under the front window. be aware that there are clips holding the cover in place under the window. these can brake off. the beeping can be of 2 things. its not holding its charge in the secondary alarm. internal battery fail. 2 the door switch for the alarm is not working so the the alarm thinks the door is open and is resetting the alarm every 5-10min this will also flatten the batter the same as the secondary unit. if it is the switch in the door it can be fixed or replaced this is not the light switch. you can some times sort it out with the engine running open the door and keep flicking the switch, push down on switch and let it out quickly a few times if this works after a few times the alarm beeping will go off. external alarm is not replaceable unless you have the car pass. this is the code that connects all the units together. and can only be done with a tec 2 type reader. hope this helps.

also to add having the battery will rest but if the problem has not been sorted it will just come back a day or 2 later or so.

Thanks Russ will try this out - from what I can remember when we ran the diagnostics there was a fault that came up with the door not sure what it was but we thought this wasn't anything to do with the ABS, will let you know the result.

Tested the door switch but the beeping continues, I have a picture of what I think you meant by the facia under the front window, is this correct?

forgot to say sorry not getting post's for some reason, there is another thing that can be wrong, there is an external alarm that runs off its own battery, this can cause a beeping and a battery drain if becomes faulty, you need to determine were the beeping is coming from as were its beeping can be were the extra alarm is fitted.

this is the part, when they fail the unit will beep and and drain power it will beep when the power is turned off to it I.e when the ignition is turned on to start engine. it is in the engine bay under the window compartment. they drain the battery over 2-3days battery should last a week with no problems,http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-VOLKSWAGEN...

on the abs unit remove the plug from it clean the points on it. it may be a seal leaking. as for the miss fire codes this could be down to a bad connection from either the crank or cam sensor, the plugs may be at fault try cleaning them also check the seal on the plug connection when they off the sensor. or it could be the ecu is giving the wrong fuel mis and that can be down to air flow temp sensor on the intake air pipe. going weak and giving the wrong temp.

SOURCE: ABS light and brake light on

there are 2 options, ABS module is most likely, I just had my ABS module remanufactured and it worked greate when i re-installed.

the second option is the wheel sensor could have a bad connection(may have been bumped when your bearing got looked at.

there are a few companies that repair ABS modules, i used modulemasters, they did a good job, i can not vouch for any of the other companies.

SOURCE: my grans hyundai getz 53 reg had an abs fault, i

hi from uk for your info there was a recall back in2004/5 for the getz relating to the abs system going faulty my wifes 2003 getz gsi was recalled and i took car to dealers for her to enquire what fault has there beenon some getz with abs system? as fault had not occured on ours ? apparently there had been a fault with the wire loom to pump particularly the earh cable deteriating ? so this loom had to be inspected and replaced under warranty however as i had waxoiled all underneath our getz including abs pump due to its location low down the loom was ok but was changed anyway and recorded and a dated sticker placed on cars glove compartment door inside to verify loom changed ? SO b4 you progress any further i would check with hyundai tech dept to whether you car had been inspected or whether slipped through unchecked ? your gran should have had a recall as we did for modified loom hope this helps?

Why are your using it-- for some time ?

When you start the motor or drive, and any dash light
comes on, you have problems & stop using it, & have it
checked for codes, to see the system with the fault, & get
it diagnosed & repaired, not continue to use it, & possibly
do damage to something

ABS does a self diagnostic every time you start the vehicle, if no problems are found the light goes out. he ABS light means there are codes to be read and repaired.

Abs light is on brake light is not flashing and no beep sound

You may have an ABS module failure...common complaint...or a wheel sensor/wiring problem.
These modules are cheaply made for VW and fail due to age and a bad switch diode. They all fail eventually.

On some vehicles the tire size can set a code as rotating diameter must match on all wheels very closely.

The module is about $1000.00 from VW but there is a guy on eBay who advertises a rebuild for about $100.00. I have used him twice and had both work fine.

The module is attached to the hydraulic brake distribution block just behind the battery and can be removed to send for repair and you can still use the vehicle. He gives you instructions to remove it.

However...the light will stay on but brakes work find although tere is no ABS skid control.

First though, you should see a VW specialist shop to determine what has caused the lamp to come on. Ask around for a reference to a VW knowledgeable shop near you.

I have a 2000 VW Beetle. My ABS light has been on for a while and last night my brake light and battery light beeped a few times then kept blinking. They finally shut off then about a couple of hours later...

I suspect bad brake pedal position (BPP) switch. Check & replace if necessary the brake pedal position switch placed above pedals on the support.
The best idea is to access the ABS ECU (Electronic Control Unit) using diagnostic equipment (VAS, VAG-Com, or similar) connected to the data link connector of the car, in order to pull out all DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Code) memored. Then you will be able to replace bad piece(s) and fix the problem by erasing all DTC's stocked inside ABS ECU & reset it.
Good Luck!

My 2000 VW Beetle's Ac stopped working. It doesnt blow any air out at all. Also the break light and the ABS lights are on. The ABS came on after the breaks got changed. The Break light is blinking and...

Sounds like you have some electrical gremlins that have moved in...

Since the fan does not even come on, and the fuses keep blowing. It sounds like the resistor pack for the blower motor could have failed, or a wire is shorted somewhere.

The ABS could simply be a wire, or sensor that was carelessly overlooked to be plugged back in when the breaks were done. Or it could be more serious.

I have a 2002 VW New Beetle. The ABS light has come on and there is a chiming beep and the ABS light flickers. What could be the problem?

ABS - Anti-lock Brake System.
If the ABS lights on the dashboard permanently the ABS system is faulty. You must access the ABS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) memory for pull out all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car. Then you will be full informed about bad pieces (e.g.: front right wheel abs sensor interrupted, ...). After bad pieces replacement you will be able to erase all faults memored by ABS ECU, in other words reset the ABS system and turn off the warning lamp on dashboard.
ASR - Acceleration Skid Control system.
When ASR warning light blinking the system is activated itself for car acceleration skid control.

For today's typical high-torque engines, traction control (ASR) can increase both comfort and safety, particularly when driving on slippery roads or surfaces offering differing levels of grip. Traction control permits smooth starting and acceleration through the full speed range without wheel-spin or fishtailing.
tdisline_703.jpg

ASR only operates in conjunction with the electronic accelerator (E-gas) and uses components of the anti-lock braking system (ABS). If one wheel suddenly begins to rotate faster than the others (slip), ASR intervenes in the engine management system and reduces power until the wheel stops spinning.
The ASR system represents a further contribution to active safety as it maintains vehicle traction and directional stability throughout the acceleration phase at any speed. In addition, it reduces tyre wear. Activation of the ASR system is indicated by a flashing indicator lamp in the instrument cluster.
The ESP system means the Electronic Stability Program. ESP system includes the ABS system.
