DVD player trouble after new laser pick-up

Hello, I have a TEAC DV-H550 DVD player. It has been having trouble reading DVD's, but CD's were ok, most of them anyway. I replaced the laser pick-up with the new version, Hitachi HOP-1120. It will not read any discs now. Please help! Thanks in advance, Bryan

Ok, this is a compatibility issue.try looking at the lens but not directly if it lights on when loading a disk.if ok.make sure the ribbon wire is securely attached especially the the terminal are not folded.

with many replacement laser pickups you have to remove a blob of solder from two pads that was put there before shipping to protect from static damage.

Bryan, did you get your DVD player to work? I am looking to change out the laser pick up with the new version - but don't really want to spend the time or money if it won't work.

Doesnt read all the cd

Hello

There are two reasons for this trouble. First one is Laser Pickup Unit fault. Second one is the strip wire connected from the Laser Pick Up Unit to the printed circuit board have broken carbon tracks in it. You just replace the strip wire, first, and see if it helps. If not replace the Laser Pickup Unit. Ok

THE UNIT DOES NOT READ DVD'S WHEN LOADED.

Hello,

the answer is "YES". You can replace the laser (lens), that's the only option you have left since cleaning the laser (lens) did not solve the problem. This shows that the laser (lens) is dead. You need a brand new one.

So go ahead and replace the laser unit, its a very good idea.

Good luck.

When playing a DVD, picture & audio stop for a second one a while, no problem when playing a CD

this may just be the mechanism changing diretion as it reads the second layer on the disc usually because the film is too long to go on one side of the dvd disc.
quite normal.
but if happening quite a lot during playing a film then it could be something as simple as cleaning the mechanism. NOT for the untrained

Probably can't, they are encoded for a reason. If you have a DVD drive on your computer MOST video players will play them.I use Nero and haven't had any trouble.

My Teac DV-L800 player won't read any pre-recorded movies, the unit makes a whirring noise for a couple of minutes before coming up with read error. However if i put an audio cd in the unit it read this...

The optics are either dirty or are starting to fail. Higher laser power is required to read DVDs. Try opening up the unit and cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. If that fails, the unit will need to have new optics.
