Mistyped. After 9 months of use, display went white/gray. Turning off / on doesn't help.

White screen will not go away or show my pictures. Digital frame isn't worth much if it does not show pictures!!!!

  • Lene326 Apr 05, 2009

Thanks Shirleyfh, had the same problem with a white screen after power went out, steps you outlined did solve the problem. Also have had the same problem with some pics not supported and others were, found that resaving photo as a jpg with ACDsee software and then reloading it worked for some reason. Not sure why but haven't had a problem since I used this software to reconvert to jpg for all pics.

I followed these steps that were listed, but it didn't work. Then I increased the time in step to an hour, and it worked

I called GE support. I was told
1. unplug power from base
2. unplug phone connection from base
3. remove cover and battery from handset
4. wait 10 minutes
5. put battery back, reattach phone connection and power

It solved the problem.

Same white screen problem. Had to leave mine sit overnight (about 11 hours) without power and then it worked. I also pushed the reset button on the back in the cord connection area.

To remove battery cover from phone just push the crescent shaped release and slide the cover up and away from the release. I had to hold the release and tap the cover slightly with the handle of a screwdriver to get it to start moving.

To get the back cover off to remove the battery on the handset, there is a "oval" shaped button at the bottom, press it and push the back cover upwards and it should slide off easily.

Our phone worked for about a year without issue. Now about once a week (for the past month) it shows the white screen. Our solution has been to unplug the power from the base for 10+ minutes and then plug it back in. It works for a week, then white screen. I'm not sure what removing the battery from the handset will do unless you have the phone on the charger all the time. Even then the voltage should be only one direction - from the base to the handset. But considering that my problem keeps coming back, I will have to try that too. to get the cover off the back, slide it toward the top of the phone, it should slide easily. I had stopped buying GE altogether for a long long time... this was our first GE purchase in over 10 years. Looks like it might be another 10 years before I buy another GE device. This is what I get when I buy GE, it works great for a while then trouble. I've never had this sort of trouble with any other brand.

I got it off with much cursing and difficulty. I thought it had something to do with the crescent shaped depression on the bottom, but it did not appear to be so. I finally stuck a flat bladed screwdriver in the rectangular hole in the side, and with some prying and sliding the blad around the gap (all along the bottom) I finally got the back (the whole shiny half) to come off. Still waiting to see if the power down for 10 mins works to restore te picture.

You can try pushing the reset button on the back of the unit. I have one too and the same thing is going on with mine but the reset does not work for me. I think the unit is of low quality parts and it is most likely dead as far as photos are concerned. Hope this helps.

To fix this issue:

3. Disconnect the Battery from the Handset
4. Wait 10-15 minutes… and put back together in Reverse Order

You can do this w/o the phone cord attached.

GE photo phone. Phone works. Photo frame was blank. 0 pictures

Remove the battery, unplug the phone, wait 48 hours. That might fix it. Or just get a new phone, these are poor.
