I have a msi 6712 motherboard. The manual states that I can use up to 3gb of ram. But when I do, there is no boot up proper. If I use just 2gb there is no problem. The speed on the memory is DDR 400mhz. I did try it with DDR 333 mhz, but got the same problem. Can you kindly tell me what I need to do to get this problem sorted? Thanks Earl Johnson

Hi there
Try updating the bios first before you upgrade the ram, this will probably resolve the problem

Kind regards

Yes it will work, but installing faster RAM in a slower motherboard, the RAM will only work at the slower speed.

MSI VR321 WITH 3GB

Kind of like with hard drives the amount shown is never the exactly full amount cause when it comes to hard drive space some of it is taken up for creating the partition.

When it comes to memory some of it is taken up for the system to run, boot up, etc. So as long as its close then everything is fine.

BUILT A COMPUTER HAVING PROBLEMS

I am not sure which geforce video card you have, nor what motherboard nor cpu you have installed. but 400 watts should be adequate for a basic system.
I would need more info to try to help you solve this problem.

Unable to get 3GB of memory to work on the motherboard

Hi enj1956, according to the manual the MB supports only,
"one" DIMM of DDR400MHz.
See page 2-7 in your manual.
You can use 3, PC2700/DDR333 / 3, PC2100/DDR266 or
3, PC1600/DDR200 to reach the 3GB.
All DIMMs must be the same memory type & speed.

Radeon graphics card and 3rd RAM slot conflict

I thought this board looked familiar to me. I recall some rules for the memory cards. Do all your memory cards meet this requirement:

Supports up to 3GB PC1600/2100/2700/3200* DDR SDRAMs

If you are using DDR 400 you can only use 1 slot.

What kind of memory are you using?

My msi vis p4m800 motherboard don't support two ram

Hi, does your board have 2 diferent color RAM slots?

if it does you must install the RAM in the same color slots.

If not then you have the option of buying a 512 stick of RAM and installing that as a quick fix. The other alternative is to have your board tested by a technician.
