I suggest you to go for Everlast's punching bags if you take it seriously, the price range vary from 80-300 dollars but it's totally worth it, you wouldn't be disappointed. You can have a look at http://www.boxingdepot.com to have a better idea on the exact price.

I just bought and installed my first punching bag at home. I thought it would be good for releasing stress. Where do I begin? Is there a proper technique to using a punching bag?

The best advice I can give you is to take your time. It is very important to take some time to first develop proper body mechanics of punching before hitting away. Remember to stay focused on your balance, keep your wrists straight, protect your hands, and never push the punching bag.

I would like to buy a 100lb punching bag. Question being, how do I hang it from my ceiling?

A basement would be an ideal place for mounting a punching bag. All you need to install you punching bag are some brackets, some which come with proper installation instructions. I am sending you a link to a site that sells the right brackets for your desired weight of punching bag along with mounting instructions.

I know that there are two main types of punching bags - hanging and standing. I also know about speed bags. Aside from these three, are there any other types of punching bags I should know about?

There are a few different types of punching bags, aside from the ones you mentioned. You can also find banana bags, teardrop bags, body bags, angle bags and double-end bags.

I just bought my first punching bag. It is one that you fill yourself. What should I fill it with?

Punching bags are traditionally filled with sand, water or grains; however you can use around the house items if you prefer. Some materials that can be a good substitute are rolled up garbage bags (packed tightly), ripped clothes/sheets/rags, cotton, rice, or a combination of these items. What you fill your bag with depends on how heavy and hard you want your punching bag to be.

How do I properly punch a punching bag? Is there a technique to it or I do I just start punching away?

Before you go "punching away" make sure to wear the right protective gear (gloves, wrist wraps) to insure you do not get injured. To begin using a punching bag, aim for the middle of the bag (generally a softer area) and hit for three minutes. Then rest for a few minutes. Repeat this on and off procedure until you feel that a good amount of stress has left your body. At this point it would be a good idea to take a few deep breathes and drink some water.
