the temperature sensor often causes symptoms such as this. it incorrectly tells the computer that the engine is cold and needs a rich mixture which results in black smoke and hard starts. another cause for such a condition is fuel injectors that are dribbling rather than atomizing fuel spray.

ever put in spark plugs this decade?
engine (good engines)
stall for these reasons.
1: BAD SPARK (do a tune up ever?)
2: BAD FUELING. (too much floods talls, tool little stave stall)
3: EGR main valve stuck open.
4: ISC stuck closed (idle speed controller)
5: lost 12vdc power to the EFI system, (loose fuse?)

My car stops at idle after running for a while. it will restart but with difficultly ?
that is called stalling
the PCM works OVERTIME to prevent all stalls
there are over 50 causes of stalls. and about 4 or 5 in pure physics.
we can do 2 things, guess, and tests
testing takes tools , got tools and the gauges?
I can tell you each test. but the story is long,,, and id bet you want gue$$ing (last)
  1. lost 12vdc to EFI or spark systems. (dead battery? blow or loose fuse//?
  2. lost engine compression 1 or more cylinder, hot only?
  3. bad spark , do a tune up now.
  4. lost fueling or flooding, (a new fuel filter can help if its not inside tank as the stupid EPA put it....... dont ask.......
  5. ISC is stuck (IAC-electric) the ISC can gum up and the ECU can no longer control idle speed.
the first tests are free.
  • can your fast acting right foot save the stall?
  • can you start car with WOT, this clears flooding.
  • can test fuel, start engine when it dont want to?

wot (this is in the oper guide) means wide open throttle,
while cranking this magic trick , cuts all fuel and clears all flooding.

that is it, all else takes tools. no tools no joy. sorry.

Stalls out when the gas pedal is hit
Pull a spark plug. Is it black? Stalling on acceleration. Possible cause: vacuum leak; can be detected by spraying water on suspected area. Will produce sound as if drinking from a near empty cup with a straw.
Possibly throttle position sensor. When they go bad, they have a tendency to tell the ecm to release more fuel than needed, flooding the engine, and killing your gas mileage.

Idle adjustment
idle is not adjustable
pcm decide the idle rpm by iac valve
try to clean trottle body plate and iac hole with combustion chamber cleaner and pour the rest at the trottle body engine idle enough not to stall engine

My 1984 camaro z28 keeps flooding. when i turn off the ignition key, the fuel keeps pouring fuel into the carb.
possibly a malfunction in the computer that controls the 1984 camaros carb would close the carburetor completely, cutting off the fuel supply or leaving the carburetor completely open, flooding the engine and causing it to stall or flodding the engine at shut off

Car runs fine then suddenly stalls at stop. hard to start again as if the engine is flooded. Idles good in neutral then misses and stalls again in drive intermittent.

When i start my 92 geo tracker, it starts fine but about 5 seconds later, the idle drops significantly. enough so, that the car sometimes (usually) stalls and i have to restart it. it also stalls...
this is cause because the ISC is busted or can not open enough to keep idle at 800 rpm.

ISC , idle speed controller

but....
the car has a TPS switch on the throttle body.
if it fails to close at idle the ecu will never attempt to set idle.

or
car could be flooding. (too much gas)

you did not say if motor is 8valve or 16v and they are quite different EFI systems.

2002 dodge Grand Caravan 3.3 floods out and stalls when starting
trouble as that engine light has to be on did you connect it proper first plug in obd 2 scan tool turn sign on do not crank eng! press the scan button it should have something for you these are sensitive and come on quite easy!
