First unplug all power from your computer. Next open the side panel of the desktop. Inside the computer you will see the motherboard. locate the battery ( round flat like a quarter size, silver color). Carefully ( very carefully) remove it. Wait 10 seconds and reinstalled it. This will reset all your cmos or bios setting to factory setting including deleting your password.

SOURCE: restoring computer factory settings

another suggestion is boot the system from your OS disk, if you have one, and repair or reinstall OS. Reinstall should not cause you to loose any files.

SOURCE: Disc failure 0 press F1 to continue

He has accessed the bios and change the boot setting devices by enabling the floppy drive which you do not have.

Go Bios (F1 or F2) on first screen. and select load default setting

Also go to Boot Options and make sure 1st boot is the HDD not FDD or removable disk

Also in any menu mention of Floppy Disk make sure it is set to not installed or disabled.

keep me posted

SOURCE: Dell GX260 wont boot a Linux Live Cd

Hello,
Could the boot record on the CD be damaged? Try it on another computer to find out. As the live CD loads the program in RAM, you need to see if your system has enough RAM (It depends on the minimum amount of RAM required to run the particular Linux Distribution)

By the way if you are interested in installing Linux inside Windows XP without creating a separate partition, Ubuntu offers this.

Hope it helps.

SOURCE: I am trying to reinstall

Check the Date and Time setting, if these are wrong you will get the Strike F1 and F2 message.
OR
The BIOS battery is flat and it won't save the BIOS settings. In this case, replace the BIOS battery and configure the BIOS again.

if the fan is dead inside say so and first.
that means there is no power to the PC (inside)
the fan must blow air. and speed up if too hot (inside)
if the fan does work.
and battery big out and AC pack good
you can connect the HDMI jack here to the TV and see if you get text or other errors are windows logon screens.

hdmi-oyuevl04yzmzelvn3qorlmkh-2-0.jpg if your PC is 1998 (there is VGA JACK TO USE)

the battery large is no good, and shorted out and must be removed.
the tiny RTC coin cell this old is 100% hopeless, this old.

Cannot get into set up to check bios

Turn on your computer. If your computer is already on then reboot it. You need to see the initial display screen to get into the BIOS.

  • 2

Press the "F2" key when you see the initial screen displaying the BIOS provider information. If using the Optiplex and Dimension models, press the "DEL" key instead of the "F2" key.

  • 3

Enter password if required. When finished in the BIOS be sure to save your changes. For changes to take place you must reboot the computer.

  • If the bios is password protected you will have to dump the bios batter first, then reconfigure the bois.

I can't boot my computer cause i forgot my password

I suggest you try hard to remember your windows password, otherwise you have to reset it or reinstall Windows. I do not recommend you to reinstall Windows, which may lead a data loss. So if you really can not remember the password, try Windows Password Seeker http://www.passwordseeker.com

Dell dimension 3000. Just Black Screen no Windows XP.

From your description, you were able to boot the machine properly in Safe Mode. While in Safe Mode, change the video resolution to the lowest possible (color depth does not matter at this point). You should also check that you are configured for single monitor operation if your video card supports multiple monitors. Reboot the machine normally. If all goes well, you can readjust your video settings for a higher resolution again.

    Password

Try pressing "ok" if you did not set a password. Otherwise a password must be set on the computer like the one at the log on screen.

    Blank Monitor

I have the same system and card. The problem is the system is trying to run two monitors at once. Use Windows safe mode (F8 during boot) to uninstall any Pny drivers you may have put on. Reboot. Install the pny drivers again. Before rebooting, use the device manager to look at the display drivers. There should be two, an Intel one, and the pny Nvidia one. Disable the intel driver and reboot. Worked for me. Youmay also want to upgrade the power supply. The 3000 has a 225W and the 8400 card wants at least 300W.
