We need to narrow down where the problem lies. Even without finalizing the disc, you should be able to play back the recording. Can you do this? If you can play back the recording, the problem exists in the finalization stage and we'll need to concentrate there. Please update this and we'll proceed to the next step.

Thanks,
Viper

Panasonic DMR-ES40V VCR won't schedule record: Recently, the VCR will not do scheduled recording anything beyond today. I can schedule a recording and it appears OK (I get red light on panel), but I never...

I found this solution on one of your old notes (but a different machine). I set up a scheduled record for 11:59 PM to 12:01 AM for the current day, then set up the scheduled record for the next day. The VCR recorded both the initial 2 minute session and the later one which I wanted to record.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED IS IN MY LETTER BELOW.

1. On your remote, find the record mode button; it is near the bottom on the left side. This button sets
the recording speed for the DVR. Faster recording speeds provide higher quality recordings.
2. Look at the display on the front of the machine: it should say XP ( records 1 hour on the disc,)
SP ( 2 hours, ) LP ( 4 hours, ) or EP ( 6 hours. ) You can also set it to record 8 hours on a disc,
but the quality of the recording will be poor.
3 Press the record mode button until the screen displays the recording speed that you want.
4 Note: if the powers fails or the Machine is unplugged, the machine will automatically reset itself to
SP mode.

I had the same problem. It turned out to be my cable that went from the dvd player to the TV. I replaced with new cable & everything worked fine again. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Dvd recorder can't read disc it previously read

Take the Disc out and put it aside. You must clean the Laser Eye, and clean dust and other matter from inside your recorder. Clean Eye with rubbibg alcohol and q-tip. A regular CD/DVD cleaner disc will not work. After cleaning, reinsert your Disc and Finalize it.

Dvd recorder

Hi Nickstart, start checking if the problem is related with the kind of Disk and test on different brands, disk types.
Even if a recorder is supposed to work fine on both +R, -R etc. , often you find out, that due to error correction methor, a device worksd well on one or the other type.

Your DVD supports the following DVDs -R, -RW, -RAM, all -R disks are supported both on 3'' and 5''.
On +R it just writes regular DVD +R, DVD +RW and mini DVD +R are not listed in DVD specs, therefore are not supported on writing.
When your unit records DVD +R it changes the format to DVD-V, The usint does not support DVD+RV.

I assume it works better with -R

I often get troubles with many DVD low price brands, try testing some good ones like Verbatim, TDK, Sony , Philips etc.

See also the manual here, at page 6 and 7 it also says: "Play may be impossible on some DVD-RW (DVD Video Recording format), +RW, CD-R or CD-RW discs due to the condition of the
recording."

Hope this had been helpful, test both a good brand DVD-R and a Good brand DVD+R.
If it still has problems when finalizing the CD, then it can be the usual lens problem, Or the DVD you are writing is too big in size and your player has problem on the final phase of DVD writing. If Data nearly takes all the 4.7 Gb allowed, there won't be enough space to finalize the DVD.
