Tip & How-To about Miscellaneous
You can use your creativity with this but I have discovered that landscaping timbers make a great log cabin for dogs. It is cooler in the Summer and warm in the Winter. I set mine on concrete blocks but a solid foundation would be nice as well. I framed the floor with 3/4 inch plywood and treated 2x4's and tied every log with 6 inch lag bolts. Each log had 4 lag bolts which run into the wood below. In between the logs I ran a line of liquid nails to seal the cracks as well as give it more strength and weather proof it. I filled it with cedar chips for both comfort for my doggies as well as insect repellent. I chose a standard house style roof frame and metal roofing but you could do shingles just as easy. I am happy to now have an all weather dog house on a permanent location at half the cost of having a not so well built pre-made dog house. I hope this inspires someone else as well. My dog cabin shown here is 8'4" square.
