Hi,
Welcome to Fixya. Unfortunately HP don't sell a separate receiver. If you need a receiver you need to purchase it as bundle. The receiver that comes with the mouse and keyboard are made specially for that model. If youre looking for a receiver it would be better to buy a bundle.
Thanks for using Fixya.

Make sure that the batteries are good and inserted correctly and that the LEDs (if any) light up.

Check your battery, is it working properly ? Is the battery placed at right positions ? If this is correct then replace the battery with other one. If problem persists then re -install the driver. Also remember that wireless devices work only when they are used under their range pointing the devices. Such as when you use remote then it will only work when it is used pointing the computer at proper distance. So check all the issues.

Sometimes if you have the optical mouse on Black pads, that can be a problem. Sounds as you have the battery in right, Have you tried rolling the wheel, to make sure it isn't out of sight? Now if you had to install software for the mouse. Take out the receiver, (USB part) then uninstall the software. Then restart your computer, then if you have the software, run it, I wouldn't put the USB part in until it tells you to, then leave it , you may also want to try a different USB port this time. Reinstall follow directions, it should work. Hope this will help you,

Sounds like you need to sync the mouse back up with the computer. A lot of the time there is a button on the bottom of the mouse that need to be pushed in order to resync it with the computer. If you have the manual for your mouse it will more then likely have the instructions on how to do this for your particular mouse there.
Good Luck.
