Uniden BC80XLT Handheld Scanner - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Help programing a realistic pro
- Hi, here is the users manual http://www.racingelectronics.com/files/bc80manual.pdf Page 14 tells you how to program your scanner. You have to throw at least one frequency in the scanner before it will receive anything. I can get you some for your area with a state and city.
- As for programming follow these steps.
- Press the manual button.
- Now pick what channel you will enter a frequency on by pressing on the number key pad.
- Now press the manual button again
- Now enter the frequency you want to program.
- Now press the "E" button to enter it.
- That's it, do it again until your scanner is full.
- If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.
- Hope this helps and thanks for using FixYa.

- The "P" means you have the scanner scanning only priority channels.
- To get rid of the "P" simply press the PRG button on the far right and bottom of the key pad and hold for 5 seconds. No the scanner should be off Priority.
- Now pick any channel that is not Locked Out and hit the "L/O" button which is the button all the way on the bottom second to the left from the wight on the keypad. Hold this for five seconds until you hear two beeps and all your channels will be unlocked and you will have free scanning capabilities again.
- Removing the "P" might be the fix right off the back depending on how many priority channels you have.
- If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.
- Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

- You can try pressing "Manual" and then "Scan" or "Band" buttons from the weather setting to get you back to scanning the police, fire, etc.
- Make sure you don't have a WX (Weather) frequency programmed into on of the regular 50 channels or the scanner will continue to stop every time around as it will pick up the WX frequency.
- Make sure you have your scanner programmed as well.

If your locals went digital they are probably using trunked systems as well. Sorry, but there is no way to convert or modify your scanner to let you monitor the new systems. You'll need to pick up a trunking/digital scanner such as the Uniden BCD996XT. Programming the trunked systems is a real task, so I recommend that you purchase the Butel ARC XT PRO software and a subscription to RadioReference.com. The combination will let you research the systems in your area, decide which ones you want to monitor, and download them straight to your scanner.

Yours is a fairly simple one to program, and the best instructions are in the factory manual that you can download and print, at no cost, here:

BTW, they're frequencies, not codes, and you can find a great database for your area at:

I don't see a master reset for your scanner, but powering it on while holding in the 2, 9, and HOLD keys works for many Uniden scanners. Otherwise, programming 0 (zero) into any channel will clear it, and programming a new frequency into any channel will delete/overwrite the previously programmed freq.

How to delete channels on
You can temporarily lock out a frequency by pressing the L/O key while the frequency is displayed, or can delete it by programming 0.0 (zero point zero) into the channel. Also, programming a new frequency into the channel will automatically delete/override the old frequency.

They're based in San Antonio and have extensive listings for the area. Unfortunately though, you're going to find that most agencies in the San Antonio area are operating on trunked systems - which your BC80XLT is not capable of following.

Uniden BC80XLT Radio Scanner distorted
It may very well be an interference problem. While the scanner may not have moved, there are many items around it that may be the source of interference. Think back to the time when the interference started. Did you install something new around that time frame? Perhaps a new computer, a new monitor, some new CFL light bulbs? Any of these items can cause interference. The other possibility is that the interference is coming from outside your home or office. While these sources may not be able to be corrected, you can do a few things to help reduce the effects of the intererence:
1. Move the scanner to a new location. Radio waves are tricky little things. You may be able to find a location where the interference is weaker, but your intended signal is still adequate.
2. Try moving the antenna. If using the rubber antenna that came with the scanner, try laying the scanner flat instead of upright.
The other thing you may want to do is check the frequency with another scanner. There is always the remote possibility that the problem is with the transmitter, and not with your scanner at all.
I hope this helps. Good luck!
