Move task bar to bottom of page

The desktop screenshot might need reducing

Click start "Control Panel."

Click "Display" and then select the Settings tab in the Display Properties window.

Use the slider bar under in the screen resolution section of the applet to change the resolution and click "Apply."

The screen repaints at the new resolution.

Click "Yes" to keep the resolution, or answer "No" at the prompt to revert to the original settings.

The taskbar is a central user interface component within the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system.

Located along the bottom of the screen by default, it includes the "Start" button, provides one-click access to all open programs and contains a collection of utility icons and the system clock in a section called the Notification Area.

Windows 2000 gives you the ability to adjust the behavior of the taskbar in several ways.

After you know where to find the proper menu item, performing this task takes only a few clicks.

Right-click on an empty area of the taskbar and select "Properties."

Click the "General" tab located along the top of the resulting dialog box.

Check the Always on Top box if you want the taskbar to appear above all other items on your screen.

Check the Auto Hide box if you want the taskbar to disappear into the bottom of the screen when you move the cursor away from the taskbar.

Check the Show Small Icons in Start Menu box if you want to enable this behavior.

Check the Show Clock box to show the system clock within the Notification Area at the right edge of the taskbar.

Check the Personalized Menus box if you want the "Start" menu to show the items you use regularly and hide the items you don't.

Click "OK" to confirm your changes.

They take effect immediately.

Hope this helps

What type of Back up involves selecting the files you want to back up as well as when you want them to backed up?

I'm not sure what exactly are you asking, but here are the possible backup scenarios in Windows 2000
  • Normal - Saves files and folders and shows they were backed up by clearing the archive bit.
  • Copy - Saves files and folders without clearing the archive bit.
  • Incremental - Saves files and folders that have been modified since the last backup. The archive bit is cleared.
  • Differential - Saves files and folders that have been modified since the last backup. The archive bit is not cleared.
  • Daily - Saves files and folders that have been changed that day. The archive bit is not cleared.
You can use Scheduler to point the time you want the backup to be done.

Thanks for the information :)
You dont say what system, or what problems you are getting.
If you are running windows 2000, then it is probably a very old system, so you may have problems using some of the functions.
There is some information from microsoft here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/237556

What is defragmenter

When a file gets saved onto the hard drive it is placed into a certain portion of the drive for accessing later. New files/information are stored in sequence after it. When info is removed/deleted the space is freed up for use future use. Well, as more files are added the computer plugs them into the next bit of free space that is availible. When a hard disk/drive is nearing capacity the computer will sometimes have to break a larger file up to fit it on the drive, resulting in it taking longer to access the info to be able to reassemble it.

A defragmenter will find all of the file fragments and open spaces and reorganize them putting them all back together in a neat row, like with like. So on an older computer or one that is nearing its storage capacity, when a program requests a file it doesn't have to spend time searching and putting things back together making the whole system respond faster and less likely to fail/crash.

This on a windows machine is a system file from Microsoft and is perfectly safe to use. BE WARNED!! This can take a LOONNNGGGGG time so be prepared to have the computer unavailible for up to several hours (running it and going to be is a good idea!) This will make the computer run more efficiently and makes a significant difference when on an older machine.

I cannot log in on my Compaq Evo N400c, I was very

Did you check whether the Caps Lock and the Keypad key is released? If the keypad key is enabled by using maybe the Fn key and one of the F key, some of your keys on your keyboard will be defined as to enter the little alternative characters on them. When it is enabled, you may be able to see a little light on your keyboard under an icon look like a keypad. Sometimes some keys may get stuck or not working so your password is changed when it is typed in. So you can clear the bottom of the keyboard a little bit by maybe put it up side down and maybe shake it a little bit (when turned off) or press those keys down and feel whether it is touching the bottom. When you press one key down you can observe the keys around and see whether something is stucked beneath them. You can use a little air blower or something like a toothpicker to clear stuff under the keys. If you can connect another keyboard to your laptop, you can try that too.
I heard about some program may change the key code of the keyboard so you actually may need to use other keys to enter that character. I hope that is not the case.
If nothing found with the keyboard, you can try to log in with the administrator's account which was created when you install your Windows 2000 and reset the password of the user account you are using. Steps are described in the following document.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/258289

You may also boot with your recovery CD and see whether you can get through the login stuff or reinstall the Operating System. As long as you don't repartition or format your data partition your data should be there still.

If the other computer can read the disk, then you have a "dead" CD-drive in your computer. It can be replaced, for about $40, by any "computer-geek" with a screwdriver.
